You lot are so funny! 21:54 - Sep 1 with 1123 views | Wallingford_Boy | 3 days ago - Best transfer window ever, got our rivals best player, signed a Norwegian wonder kid… Today - we’ve got rid of a couple of fringe players that did well for us in the past and it’s the end of the world! Get real, the squad is better now, much better. It may not happen this season, but we’ll get it right over the next 12 months or so.

A fair number of posters can only see the positives and another similar sized group only see the negatives. When you add in the trolls too, it isn't that weird that there's a lot of negativity when decent players leave.

You lot are so funny! on 22:11 - Sep 1 with 743 views | FrimleyBlue | Its the lack of direction which is my concern. At the beginning of the project it all made sense. The signings etc some didn't come off but they still made sense when you compared them to what they were replacing But since we got promoted nothing matches what comes out of ashtons mouth We weren't in the prem to make up the numbers. We would be bold etc. We ended up with the championship stat list Come June he says retention is key etc. We've now got only a few players left from that squad. We let morsy leave for free. Loaned out a player only purchased 1 year ago from this very level and loaned out a big part of our club for really no gain of doing so. We've got a handful of loans with obligations only available if promoted. So this short term pain for long term gain angle isn't necessarily true as we could be back to another squad overhaul next summer. I dunno. I'm struggling tbh to understand what ashton and KM are doing. It's really the first time in this era where I dont fully trust the leadership of ashton and neither is it easy to trust KM. He had a side in place and added to it, he's now in charge of his own put together squad. I find some of his recent interviews a bit strange when he talks of playing players to their strengths rather than where he wants them to play yet we see the constant misuse of players in different roles. Anyways. We can only see what this goes. It's either gonna be great or a rough few years now I reckon as non promotion starts the Financial pullback etc and you never know how that will effect things. So for now. We can only sit back. Wait and hope KM can get this side balanced. Patterns of play worked out and we can get some wins going and promotion back on track. But for ashton. A bit of clear direction would be nice rather than car salesman talk in his interviews. He sets the expectations. He can't then moan when they aren't met and some fans call him out on it.

Just like most on here change their opinion on the team with 1 solitary result those same people are changing their mind on the transfer window in the space of a couple of days. It's just your typical football supporter who on average doesn't have the IQ to have a balanced assessment.

The new crop might well achieve more but it seems unlikely that they will have the same emotional impact. I think we have in essence become a normal club again. It’s sad but I remind myself of where we were pre gamechanger/KMc. Still much to be happy about I’m comparison to 4 years ago.

Which new signings don't make sense for who they're replacing? I think we invested to stay in the Premier League. It didn't work out but had we won a game or two early, got in a fit Broja, suffered fewer injuries, Muric had a solid season, and had the rub of the green more often on marginal calls, I think we would have run it close at least. I would say Phillips was a bold signing that didn't work out. Retention is key. There was no way we were retaining Delap nor Hutchinson. Burgess and Tuanzebe were beyond our reach to keep too. Morsy is a more interesting one but we have replaced him with one who could be what we need in the Premier League. Morsy wasn't going to make a Premier League impact in the future having been a bit short of what we needed last season. But we have retained Cajuste and Davis. People are really losing it over Chaplin but realistically he hasn't been more than a squad player for some time now. He started fewer than a third of our matches last season and was a sub in only a third more. I get the emotional attachment fans have with him and Woolfenden but I don't think squad players is what Ashton was referring to here. If so, you could complain about Al Hamadi leaving too. Ogbene is returning from injury and has only been loaned and we have signed others for his position. It would be churlish to complain about that loan. The obligation to buy doesn't mean we definitely wouldn't sign those players if we are not promoted (see Cajuste as an example). However, there is also a large degree that failure to get promoted means those loanees probably came up short and we wouldn't want to pay the agreed fee in that scenario. It doesn't feel like the first time you have struggled to trust Ashton and/or McKenna. You have certainly posted as if you are questioning them on multiple occasions previously. "the constant misuse of players in different roles" feels like an exaggeration to me. One thing I do agree with is we can only wait and see where this goes. Unfortunately we never perform well after an international break so I won't hold my breath for the next match. It will be the first appearance for a few probably too. Fail to win for too long and we will have a big job on our hands. But, if the team can click and do so soon, we could be phenomenal.

You lot are so funny! on 22:39 - Sep 1 with 485 views | darkhorse28 | That’s sadly not how teams work. We have more quality, for sure, we don’t have a better team. Burgess, Chaplin, Morsy, Massimo and slightly less so Wolf…, they were leaders, they wanted it, they’d run over their granny and your to win football games.., they self governed, they didn’t need anything from McKenna except really good coaching support, and a few talented additions around them. Who and where is our leadership group now? It’s not Philogene, it’s not Clarke, it’s not Johnson, it’s not Jens either, and it’s likely not many of the new signings. Young, maybe Nunez, O’Shea .., hard to have that expectation of the new players.., to want to die for three points like our band of brothers did. You can’t coach or spend £200 million on what we’ve lost, it’s not about quality.., many better sides than us, achieved much less because of what’s between the ears! Let’s have it straight.., Southampton had much more quality than us 23/24, and Leeds ran complete rings around us …., TWICE, they had 20% more quality than us, at least. Who won promotion? This group cost 15 times more than our legacy group, and yes, they have more quality…, they won’t achieve 96 points this season…, and they won’t achieve it next either. We’ve replaced a whole squad twice in 12 months. The plan? - there isn’t one. We don’t recruit for traits, we recruit for players McKenna thinks he can coach improvement into. That’s not how you build elite performance teams. It’s looking like the leadership group already being here when McKenna arrived.., was more vital than anyone ever realised.., including McKenna!! The quality we have in the group should rinse this division.., but it won’t.., they will regress, like Clarke, Philogene, Greaves have.., the players clearly lost belief in McKenna (sad but true) and it’s a huge gamble to replace them all!! It’s not how you build success short or long term, it just isn’t.

I'm not sure on the emotional impact. Obviously it was pretty special and maybe a one off, so from that perspective okay, but if we go up and stay up with the bulk of this lot, that will be one hell of an adventure too, with many heroes and great nights. Yes it's a big risk and upheaval, but results and performance are everything and almost by default if it comes good then emotional ties and memory defining moments will be similar if not quite as fairytale.

I entirely agree with the part about the dismantling of the leadership group. They were strong characters with high standards. Apart from Ash Young I do not see where the leaders are. They strike me as talented individuals, but not necessarily leaders of men. It is why Morsy should have been kept at all costs, for continuity and passing on the leadership torch to younger, newer colleagues. It is a worry.

"The players clearly lost belief in KM"? Disagree. Some of them have lost a bit of belief in themselves. Understandable after a relegation season. Some players have been bought in for leadership roles. Young, Furlong, Button. For example. In the same way we had Keogh and Aluko. Players like Leif and Hirst will run through brick walls for McKenna. There's a lot of fall out from a relegation. I'm guessing that those players that couldn't handle it too well. And perhaps were sulking and creating a negative atmosphere. Have been removed from the building. Far better to do this in one hit, imo. So everyone can get over it and move on. It's bold from Ashton and KM.. But that's what I like about it. Yes, it will take a bit of time and more importantly a few wins to get that togetherness back into the side. But it will happen a lot quicker if everyone gets behind them.
