Never liked Hey Jude (might be down to a very drunk mate of mine singing it repeatedly at the top of his voice while I had a migraine). Always thought it very down-beat, too, tho I appreciate the "naa naa na nananana" bit is easy for a crowd to sing.
Would prefer EEJB. But not Story Of The Blues.

Plus there's the issue of the second verse which many don't know.

1. Ed Sheeran is a blue and does an awful lot for the club, he's down to earth, he's not pretentious, not really dislked by anyone (other than those being contrarian)
2. It's slow and anthemic and has time to build with others joining in.
3. The 'old boys' might not think it's cool (see point 1) but we're not all going to be around forever, the youngsters want identity with the club too....they're the future, they know it.
4. Might be royalty free to play lol
5. It's now got meaning (as posted prior in this thread) having been sung in the changing rooms post promotion, that's a reason to maintain the memory of great times specific to us and nobody else.

"I've found a love" we all have right? Ipswich FC. Easy start.
"Barefoot in the grass" Hallowed turf of Portman road?
"fightin' against all odds" or being stronger together, fans and team.
Some are more tenuous, but they're there, carrying children (passing the baton on to generations of fans)?
Basically, for a lot of fans, Ipswich means way more than it should lol! Comparable to the wife/partner/love whatever ....
I'd lay money it'd work.
I'd lay money it'd carry on well past kick off (assuming we don't go 1-0 in the first minute lol!)
Hey jude is used to get the whole stadium singing, including the away fans. It's all about TV. I don't like it, has nothing to do with the Town. You need an Ipswich specific ditty, maybe something from The Adicts

That striving to 'get back up' is what football (especially supporting one of the less fancied teams) is all about. Getting back up and keeping going is the very epitome of running towards adversity.
I've never been sure on the background to playing it. If I remember rightly, it was played for the first time ahead of the play-off semi in 2015 and seemed to come from nowhere, had no historical connection to the club that I was aware of.

I agree with this as another decent option. Has a genuine connection to the club and even the title, 'Perfect', has the potential for merchandising - can be attached to perfect goals, perfect moves, perfect moments and players from our past... and how we feel ITFC are the finest football team the world has ever seen.
We could even have the singer/songwriter himself come out and do an accoustic version at events, an impromtu gig in the Fanzone or a half time appearance...
People may say it's a naff pop song, but once its embraced and you get half the stand singing it (in the context of the club/team) it takes on a new life. Like for example I didn't particularly care for it until the players sang it for Ed in the dressing room.

I seriously doubt 27,000 in the stadium really know EJB. It needs to be something more recognisable and easy to deliver. As awful as it is, this is why Hey Jude gets so many people joining in.
Just look around other clubs, and the unique chants/songs that get the entire stadium rocking.
I realise that this will be a very unpopular view, but if you want to replace Hey Jude with something that gets the entire ground rocking it, it’s not EJB.
Not sure that it's that unknown. It's decades old, and, as a manufactired thing, didn't really take off initially. But clearly, it just needed a period of rest as it's taken off properly now.
If my memory is not misbehaving I recall on Ray Crawford’s retirement, his last game at Portman Road he asked that the tons fans should sing “keep right on to the end of the road” If it was good enough for Ray Crawford it should be good enough for every town supporter. Birmingham can do one.
Ray did that because Harry Lauders 'Keep Right on to the end of the road' was played over the speakers before very Ipswich match for about 20 years.
It was our song and was followed by Entry of the Gladiators when the teams entered the pitch. It wouldn't work now but when I hear Birmingham crowd belt it out it does bring back a lot of memories.
The loudest song by a long way though was Ipswich to the tune of Amazing Grace. Its too slow for the drummer but was sung by all stands and way. way louder than anything we hear now.

Southampton game, upper sir Alf. I was the only person singing EJB around me at the start of second half. Not sure many actually know the words.
I still sang it, remember getting it on vinyl from my grandad along with Ipswich Calypso in the early 90s
