I'd have thought the same, but the BBC has to cover every single reform story. It's the law. [Post edited 4 Sep 19:44]

I assume she was still a Conservative member who would stand in an election/by-election. As such she is now the same for Reform. It is rather apt that even she describes it as "thinking the unthinkable." It sounds very like rhetoric from 1930s Germany.

These Tory defections just makes Reform seem like Tory lite. Or Tory right. That won't win over Labour voters imo.

He’s very close. Early- to mid- 1930s Germany’s approach was to ‘encourage’ refugees and immigrants, most notably Jews of course, to leave Germany by creating a hostile environment (tick, under all the Tory Ministries since Cameron and under Starmer), removing their rights (tick), and by encouraging discrimination against them (tick) including murder (not tick). So we’re only 75% there. It wasn’t about camps at first, although we’ve also reached the camps stage (Reform this week). So we’re well on the way. It seems inconceivable that we’ll take the next jump to mass extermination, but who knows. America aren’t far off by forcefully detaining and deporting (most likely) innocent people to high security prisons in El Salvador where they have been tortured. Farage is of a similar ilk to Trump and we know he admires him. He’s keen on offshore camps too, so I wouldn’t rule anything out as daft as that may seem.

Mad Nad gone to Reform on 21:25 - Sep 4 with 1385 views | DJR | I think we will see a lot of Conservative MPs and former MPs doing this closer to the election if the poll ratings for Reform hold up because it will increase their chances of being elected.

That will be perfect. Surely even the most intellectually challenged of the electorate won't vote for a bunch of failed ex Tory MP's. The more the merrier for me. For me Reform get in if they put up a bunch of first time 30 years olds.

I am not sure that Reform voters would care that much, and it certainly didn't stop Andrea Jenkyns from being elected Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire. Having more experienced Tory candidates would also help challenge the narrative that those elected were out of their depth, as has happened in the case of the recent local elections.

Although Dorries wouldn't necessarily be a realistic challange to that particular narrative.

She was certainly out of her depth when she was a Tory minister. There used to be a Twitter Daily Dorries account featuring some of the racier extracts from her books - very funny.

I can't really comment on her competence but I do think the Mad Nad nickname is sexist. She was also right when she called Cameron and Osborne "two arrogant posh boys". She also writes for the Daily Mail, so will be popular with people who might vote Reform. [Post edited 5 Sep 9:58]
