Two things I’d change about football immediately… 19:57 - Sep 14 with 3853 viewsThatMuhrenCross

1) Move to 80 mins and stop the clock when the ball goes out of play, like rugby. Instant end to time wasting.

2) Referral based VAR system like cricket. Both captains get two or three reviews. If you get it wrong, you lose a review.

I am enjoying football so much more without VAR, we can celebrate goals and then kick off again without standing around waiting to see whether or not goals are disallowed.

Safe standing behind all goals.

Cap on all away prices (like the Prem have) - say £25 in the championship, £20 in Leagues 1 and 2.

Limit the TV games to 2 a week (One on a Sunday, 1 on a Monday night) and all other games to be played at 3pm on a Saturday.

Bring back football specials and ensure one for every match so fans don't rely on coaches or hotels.

Cap player wages to £1m a year. Minimum of 3 home grown players on the pitch at a time.

Not only allow the slinging of bog rolls, but make it mandatory that every fan has to do one a season. Season ticket cancellation if you throw it the wrong way and it doesn't unwind.

The game has changed enough over the last few years. Bar reversing some of those changes, I wouldn't be touching it.

Time wasting is often more about killing momentum, it's not necessarily about wasting time ironically. Even if it means you still have to play the allotted minutes you can still kill a team's momentum by faking injuries and taking your time. If anything it would give teams more licence to get away with it.

And the referral system idea just seems like an unnecessary can of worms. Also, you're then no longer just re-refereeing the game, you're almost letting players referee the game. Which player will have the authority to challenge the decision, the captain? What if he was nowhere near the incident, are they going to have a conflab with their bench before deciding? If so, how long will allowed for him to do that?

There's so much potential for further controversy that people don't think about. Just like when people were shouting for VAR in the first place, they just said "we need to use technology" - there was no serious plan or thought process behind it. Hence it's been a disaster.

I love cricket but it's a completely different sport played 5 times slower than football. It works in that, it wouldn't work in football.

I’d say most vloggers do it more for the enjoyment than the clicks. Why would you want to deny someone the opportunity to pursue their hobby?

What about a half and half design? If you felt like a change we could just ask the players to face the other way. I reckon it’s a winner.

No silly patterned footballs. Just plain white and no little cones around the pitch with spare balls either. Just one ball and spare in the dugout.

Retrospective 10 game ban for trying to con the ref by diving, play acting and trying to get a player sent off. There are plenty of cameras to review. A Liverpool player clearly tried it on yesterday. Long ban and he’d stop doing it.

One sub only. No silly car seats in the dugout. Just a bench for the sub, trainer, manager, doctor with a bucket and sponge.

No sponsors on shirts or players names. Just numbers.

Shared gate receipts.

Every team to have a minimum of three British Isles players and the academy system to be reformed to stop it favouring monster clubs hoovering up players.

Get rid of shaking hands before games. It’s a nonsense. The fireworks and pathetic cardboard arch can go too.

Pundits. Cut the number down or ditch. They’re growing like fungus. Certainly the ‘co commentator’ can go. What exactly does a bonehead like spit monster Carragher add with his stating the obvious in his ghastly accent?

I would consider the following

1) retain tech only for goal line, penalty or serious foul play incidents

2) do away with offside rule completely what benefit is it actually brings to game or fan enjoyment that would also negate the need for tech and precision offsides which isn’t even in the spirit of what we understand to be the game

3) stop the game only when ball is out, head injury or high speed impact injury, the players if need be can get up and receive treatment off pitch otherwise and a rolling sub can enter play for min 5 mins controlled by the FO

4) put the taking of a free kick in hands of team taking it not the referee, if they want a fast take they go and if the opposing team isn’t the ten yards and somehow impedes, ball moves forwards 5 yards only as far as the 18 yard line, if they want to go slow they can ask ref to pace it out but they take when they are ready within seconds not when the defenders are in place. If they don’t take quickly clock stops.

5) blue card for two bookings min mins off the pitch, could be anything from 6-10mins or over 15mins as that would really penalise

6) rolling subs but haven’t thought through under what conditions, could be the minor knock scenario above or could be for everything after 10 mins and not within last 5 mins of any half to avoid tactical shenanigans

At a random point each half, a siren sounds, and five other identical balls are thrown onto the pitch. Only one of them is the genuine match ball, and there's a small transmitter in it that will emit a beep in the referee's headset if it ends up in the goal.

If a team gets a four or more goal winning margin at any point, the centre circle retracts, and a giant 30 foot high bar billiards skittle emerges for the remainder of the game. If the winning team hits it at any point, they lose a goal until the margin is three or less.

Instead of red cards, players have to wear remote controlled boots after serious foul play that are controlled by the opposing manager.

"And Sargent's through on an open goal and... Oh, it's OK, McKenna is using his remote control and Sargent is now running across the Cattle Market car park"

Each team has four joker cards each season, which when deployed, means the opposing team must play Ben Godfrey.

Ban agents

They sometimes used to have police dog demonstrations, where whoever draw the short straw used to run down the pitch in thick pads and the get brought down by the dog/s.

We could do that with agents. But without padding. And use lions.

Replace FFP/PSR with a salary cap. Simple, effective. (As long as they don't allllll just flee to Saudi...)
