Have had a bit of think about this this morning and having had a silly number of abuse reports and subsequent PMs this morning, as well as having to deal with another issue with a banned user which if I told you the full story you wouldn't believe and is in the hands of lawyers, it's got to the point where I really don't have the patience, inclination or time to give those who continue to cause issues on here. I've told one returning user he's banned after repeating the same sort of thing that got him banned before and I don't think there can be any complaints. The same will happen to those who continue to waste our time.

Surely, though, it's Phil's decision who he invites back and if he feels texters has crossed the line on his house party rules, then it shouldn't be up to others to call him out on it?

Don’t think anyone is calling Phil out tbh. I’m definitely not anyway. Absolutely up to Phil who he has in and has out.

I do think banning an obituary thread for a long term poster is abit OTT though. If I go at some point and don’t get at least 18 #ThankYouRommy posts and a 10 page memorial thread, I’ll be devastated.

And by devastated I of course mean I will read it, laugh a little and then forget you all exist almost immediately.

I have no doubt that I would get no such obituary thread, so I wouldn't check back for one anyway! 🤣

Honestly interested in why being a long term poster is relevant?

If you're banned for being repeatedly offensive why should you be celebrated?

The entire concept is weird and clearly driven from a factional narrative. I wouldn't think you went in for such things.

Phil’s in a tough spot tbf. It’s his gaf and we’re all combining to a mess at a massive house party. Some people bring the laughs. Some bring the entertainment. Some bring the wisdom. Some piss on the carpet drunk.

Most get invited back even if they’re chucked out. It’s only the ones who go through the cupboards and rob the jewellery that deservedly lose their place in his house.

Texters pissed on the carpet. He didn’t rob any jewellery. Hope he’s back soon. And I hope Phil keeps hosting these parties for many more years to come

The only flaw with your house party analogy, is that texters pissed on the carpet in his OP (which many of us have been guilty of), but if you then start pissing on the other guests in the rest of the thread, I don't think you can have many complaints if the host kicks you out.

In truth, I have no idea what your last paragraph means. I’m not as wordy as you Stoker so I’m not entirety sure what you’ve said. But the rest of it I’ll reply to..

I think being a long term poster does matter. Yeah this place is a laugh and it’s not serious (well it is to some, but in the real world no it isn’t that deep), but on the few occasions someone needs genuine help, this place to a man will chip in. Will offer advice. Will donate. And texters is included in that. I first joined and as a 14 or 15 year old who’d never been to a game on his own before has texters message me some helpful info because I’d ask for help. That was 12 or 13 years back now but he didn’t have to do that. But he did because he’s a good bloke being all this internet stuff.

I’d be legitimately shocked if anyone on here ever gave me stuff in the real world. Even taxman who I has problems with back when I tooo this place serious bought me a pint once and we moved on and shook hands. I don’t know if he went as far as apologising but he and betters both did that at the time and I thought it was a nice touch. Even mullet who hates me for whatever reason on here has met me in person and seemed fine with me.

I think texters departing is fine if that’s Phil’s decision but denying pepper the chance to say au revoir when we’ve spoke to him on here for 15 years or whatever is perhaps harsh. Thankfully I know him on Twitter so I can fulfil all of my texters needs. But not everyone has that ability and it’s a shame.

I think on your departure thread I wished you well and said something inspirational come to think of it.

Very fair. I don’t disagree.

But if the other guests want to raise a glass to him as someone they’ve known in said parties for 15 years, should the host ban discussion of such carpet pisser?

The host is tired, needs to clean up the piss, and wants the guests to go home so he can get some rest as he has work in the morning. We should respect that in gratitude for his hospitality.

Tempted just to ban all those who just turned yet another thread into pointless sniping. And no need for the obituary every time someone is banned.

My departure wasn't a banning though, it's not a comparable incident.

Phil has said there is no need for obituaries on bannings yet you're arguing for pages that there is. Perhaps it's something you should discuss with Phil as he's clearly in agreement with my point.

I would also posit that people change, texters definitely changed and thus actions from decades ago aren't really relevant.

Maybe a free for all thread would do the job. Saw a forum (think it was sheff wed maybe?) which had a similar set up.

Any trivial arguing or drama was put into that thread. Those that don’t want to see it, don’t click it. Mods left it alone completely and those who wanted drama and arguing took it in there. Was like 50 pages long but it actually seemed to work. In the way that it was all kept to that place and the rest of the forum was able to run smoothly.

But it’s your rules and who am I to suggest stuff tbf

I think referring to anyone as "easily offended" has a stigma attached (and rightly so)

One thing I am really picking up on is that context and nuance really is hard online. Especially since we've swung into a very divisive era all around. I am a big fan of challenging a point of view but also listening to the reply, that's a great way to learn, even if in disagreement.

When it gets too personal and perceivably targeted then you simply got to accept that you'll run into the "Find out" after the "F about" and rather hilariously after that is surprised Pikachu face when they're held to account.
