Queueing in pubs 18:04 - Sep 22 with 3090 views | chicoazul | I usually only drink in a couple of local pubs but happened to find myself in a trendy pub in Southgate this weekend, don’t ask. There was a queue, yes madam that is what I said, queue, to the ramp to order. I have never seen anything like it in my life. I noticed it, walked past it, caught mine hosts eye and was served in no time in the usual way. Is this the New Jerusalem? Is this what we fought and trounced the Hun for, not once but twice? What does TWTD make of this shocking phenomena?

The miserable git of a landlord at my local put up a sign a couple years back saying “line starts here for service” and loudly makes it clear that he won’t serve anyone who’s not officially waiting in the line. I don’t love it but given the number of people who sit at the bar and never move, it’s not the worst idea.

I must admit that as I get older it's harder to catch the eye of a busty barmaid. And if I was to say to "have one yourself" I'd probably be on a list with Russell Brand.

If you lifted your gaze from said barmaid's décolletage it may help.

it is, but alot of bar staff arent trained, taught or bother to learn the skill, after all its just pushing buttons on a till and pulling a tap innit. and even when they are decent staff, we seem to be seeing alot of infrequent visitors to the pub who dont know pub etiquette, so instead of it just being an annoyance at Christmas time, its spreading to the rest of the year. I dont queue to get in a pub, and certainly dont queue in the pub, except maybe to use the lav.

Queueing in pubs on 23:56 - Sep 22 with 1485 views | Funge | The last time I went into Isaacs (is there a pub in the world with more bars) was before Sarmiento did that thing against Southampton - walked up to purchase a refreshing beverage, and was told by some poor kid in an ill-fitting polo shirt, that there was a queue. Indeed, a line of gloomy blue shirts disappeared into yonder gloom. I think I may have sworn and stomped off; pretty sure Aidan Coughlan will cope without my custom. Queueing at bars is the worst thing to happen to the UK in the last 200 years.

You can still do that in Wetherspoon's. I go there occasionally with a friend. He has the app and pays for the drinks, and I reimburse him at the end of the evening. It's actually quite relaxing. [Post edited 23 Sep 8:32]

Queueing in pubs on 08:31 - Sep 23 with 634 views | GeoffSentence | In all probability the folks aghast by the idea of queueung at a bar are tall or reasonably so. For those of us who are less so, getting served at a busy bar involves the use of elbows, clambering, standing on tip toes, or if we are lucky there is a rail at the bottom of the bar to offer a leg up, quite a bit of puffing up, some head thrusting, glaring and in extreme cases a nit of swearing. Queueing seems so much easier.

You the bloke who went mental when he thought I was queue jumping at the Capel petrol station (last game of the season) ? *I was, but by accident as the pump I was queueing at was diesel only and my motorbike has no reverse gear... [Post edited 23 Sep 8:36]

The pub my son and I went to near the station on Saturday had probably the most efficient bartender I think I've ever come across. She was on her own but able to take orders and pour drinks for different people at the same time whilst also taking payment before the drinks were served. It was multi-tasking on steroids. ….before someone else is one of the most important skills passed down from father to son over generations. Trying to spot who is being served and positioning yourself behind them so that you can slide into their space ahead ahead of the rest is one of the few pleasures left to man. It should not be lost to modern wokery.
