I only saw the second half. Sindre had a couple of moments showing quick feet and put at least one decent cross in. He seemed to come out of his shell a bit more and try stuff, even if it didn’t come off. There’s a thread somewhere talking about him having a more difficult first hslf.
Westie on comms seems to have summed it up, saying the first 11 picks itself now apart from right wing where neither Sindre or McAteer have done enough to nail a spot down. |  |

He’s learning. He got better as the game progressed. Made himself available. He’s clearly got boatloads of talent and plenty of vision.
At the moment McAteer knows the game better, has the experience but the potential of Egeli is significantly higher. |  | | |

I thought that Sindre played well - he can pick out a pass and will get better and better. But we will need to be patient with him as young players make mistakes etc etc.

Difficult so really say as we were heavily reliant on our left
However the moments he did get he showed a desire to ping a ball and showed he can certainly do so with a sublime cross field ball to davis.
Showed a few glimpses of quick feet drop of a shoulder too and almost scored a deflected goal.
He was imo keen to show his pressing talents, a bit too pushy for the ref and did indeed get a yellow. But as debut starts go it was OK and you could see what talents he has. |  |

Sindre showed some nice touches in the first half, one 40/50 yard cross field pass was a beauty.
Fairly quiet second half and on a yellow, Mcateer came on in his place and was absolutely fine, nothing fancy, but the right substitution as Porstsmouth were getting on top at that point. |  |

Egeli - He's very young and a move to another country and this league means it's a big step up. Didn't see much of the ball particularly early on as everything is going down our left at the moment. But I think KM is going to do an excellent job of bedding him in. His comments about Egeli's work rate today and his desire to close down and defend/win second balls as the base from which he can push on were spot on. He did all of that well. There's no doubt he's got real ability. Some good moments today - great cross field ball, nice run and blocked effort, some good link up. Also thought it was good to see a lot of the team give him a pat on the back after his effort on goal. He's going to get all the support and help he needs here. Important day today as he begins to get more used to the league. Have no doubt he's going to be a really exciting player for us. Think he's a confidence player. As that grows, expect to see him begin to really dominate.
Macateer - despite a load of morons deciding he's their new boo boy, also think that was an astute signing. Loads of energy and commitment. Any mistake and the morons can't wait to moan but he came on, worked hard and closed down well. Wom a good free kick after nicking the ball and some smart wing play. Took too long on the ball at one point when he should have crossed. But again I expect with more time with KM and the team he will improve. Good option from the bench. [Post edited 27 Sep 20:01]

I remember an Ivan Campo crossfield pass to Pablo Counago drawing similar gasps years ago.
If Egeli becomes anywhere near as good as Campo then I will certainly be happy. Always thought it was a shame we got Campo a season too late, really. |  |

They are very different types of player. Egeli wants to drive inside (like Jaden on the other side) while mcateer wants to stay wide (like burns). Both will have a part to play this season, but I want to see sindre a lot, he could be bonkers good. That doesn't mean mcateer won't be useful. Different games call for different ways of playing. | | | |

I thought he had a good game and showed enough that he’ll be a good threat when up to speed. He did good defensive work and showed he will be good a bringing others into play and beating his man. It’s hard on the right as the full back role is far more reserved - and Furlong had a few passes intercepted / blocked that restricted his service (vs the left hand side). Really impressed by his strength. If you compare him to Hutchinson’s first few games I was immediately more impressed by Sindre’s all round game today. |  | | |

He opened up twice and did cause issues, but I think he’s finding his feet and the confidence to really express himself isn’t there.
But he made two or three chances and one long pass that not many in the team can do.
I’m quietly confident he’s going to grow into a very good player.

He was far better defensively than I expected and showed glimpses of quality when on the ball too. Didn't run with it much whereas I was expecting him to be a bit more Gio-like with running at players. Definitely a lot of promise there.
McAteer does the basics well, holds a good position and is a solid but less spectacular. |  |

I think we need to forget the fee paid here. A squad always needs solid 6.5/7 players to just keep their head down and do their job. We clearly operate our attacks primarily down the left, and sit back more on the right, currently.

Mcateer can absolutely do a job. It still just seems a bit bizarre that we paid £12 for him and then loaned out Ogbene who has consistently been the better player for ROI for example.
Saw Ogbene got an assist today. Surely he's not miles away from being back to 100% fully fit and firing. | |

As others have said, Sindre needs to be seen as the Right sided Jaden Philogene. He is a flair player, making a big step for someone so young, and playing a new system with new team mates. All of those things mean that he may take a little while to find consistency and rhythm.
In contrast McAteer is a hard-working wide Right Midfielder. He doesn't seem to be fully clicking yet with his team-mates.
The one thing I find hard to understand is that Ben Johnson played well for us as a wide Right Midfielder in the Premier League, better than he plays as a Right Back. We didn't take points from many games in the PL last season, but the games where we did gain points disproportionately featured Johnson at Right Midfield.
If we wanted someone to perform the Harness/Jackson hardworking wide player role, why didn't we stick with him? | | | |
