In his criticism of Farage and Reform

A ‘snake oil salesman’ really? Whether he thinks it or not should he be saying it???

He is entering Donald Trump territory. At one point I thought he was going to say ‘Farage is a horrible, horrible, horrible Man.

I was always taught when selling something don’t criticise the opposition too much as it can look make you look a bit unprofessional

In which case why is nearly every thread you start criticising who you consider the opposition?

I think we all know the answer.

I think that's harsh; it's good that Tom Hunt has finally found something to fill his time with.
It stops him annoying the rest of society.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I take your point, but in this case, I think its reasonable and wise criticism. They have every right to point out that he's chatting plop. Take his plan to deport everyone: it might sound good to his core support, but to everyone else, it means a huge change to the fabric of our society, with communities torn apart, friendships busted and the loss of skilled productive workers.

Well Farage has been criticising immigrants for years, in fact he's built a whole career out of it, so it seems to be working for him

Although you're right, he is incredibly unprofessional, but that seems to be what you lot want nowadays

You're wasting your time here mate.

Ive been accused of all sorts just for posting something that offers an alternative opinion without nailing my colours to any mast.

Its just the way some are sadly.

snake oil salesman captures farage perfectly - both his politics and his personality.

but as streeting knows full well describing him is always the easy bit. it's not the same as understanding why people are listening to him.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

A "snake oil salesman" is someone who fraudulently sells worthless products or deceptive solutions with exaggerated claims.

Hardly offensive or hateful in the same way that Trump behaves.

I think it is the least offensive way of calling out the charlatan personally.

This idea of having to be kind to the opposition is quite a recent thing - and often rather one directional.

Compare with this cartoon from the 18th century, in which the government is shown literally sh1tting upon the populace:

Taking you in good faith it does always amaze me how for most of the British public it's more important how polite you are in expressing your policies than the content.

Farage has always blamed the ills of Britain on immigrants. He's shown at every step that he's willing to push the goalposts on this (latest is to deport already settled individuals). Are we so wrong to assume the end goal is an ethnostate?

If Streeting is entering Donald Trump territory he might bump into Farage!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
