“I was at a club where regardless whether you took your opportunity or not there was politics behind it that you weren’t in the team for that reason or this reason”
Maybe backs up the claim of players starting because of the price tag?
Yes he is bitter. I heard from a close friend of Woolfenden that he fell out with McKenna over a YEAR ago. He didn't like being dropped, and thought he should be first choice. His friend told me hes been wanting to dis the club and McKenna ever since. Low and behold as soon as hes left the club ( absolutely queuing round the block to sign wonder boy werent they!) he does exactly that.
Hes nothing special, never has been and even his transfer fee reflects this. He's not to my knowledge even been a young international, so where on earth he gets his high and mighty opinion about himself from God only knows! He now warms Coventry's bench. He's a back up player for other first team players injuries, at whatever club hes at.
Three different Town managers at some point have eventually dropped him or simply never picked him. HE thinks he's something special, as do his little band of brothers on this forum. He's arrogant, and a League One level player. I wont even call him a CB, because hes not one. Hope he likes the "politics" at Coventry as he sits out his career on their bench, or perish the thought gets sold off to a second rate championship outfit like scum. He'd fit in there very well. He's an absolute tossa and c nut of the highest order.
It would appear that the tone of your communication is worse than anything Woolfenden may have said.

....or....just bathe in the warm glow of victory!
"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
I wasn't talking about "interference", I was talking about influence; and if KM had a say in the purchase of Greaves for all that dosh (which I assume he did) then I'd be amazed if he felt no pressure, including from himself, to give Greaves the chance to play and prove himself.
I appreciate I'm in a minority here, but that's my opinion, which I believe I'm allowed to have.
Perhaps one slight nuance to this debate which I haven’t quite seen expressed here yet is the ‘high ceiling’ factor. Large transfer fees often reflect not only current value, but a proportion of potential future value. The only way to realise that future potential value is to give game time to the player concerned. KMcK has often referred to this in interviews and would definitely have this in his thinking without it being classified as external pressure to pick said player. He’s looking out for the medium / long term future of the club surely?

A small point of order from this febrile and obnoxious fart of a post...
Cook dropped him in favour of Nsiala. Maybe you thought that was a good move, knowing your excellent understanding of the game.
I think the thing you (and others) are missing is that it's never a static, fully developed situation, where player A is a 6.8 and player B is a 7.2, and therefore player B should be playing and player A should be on the bench,
Two things: It's how they integrate with the rest of the team on the day, which is also fluid, so it's a massive great simultaneous equation which can't absolutely be solved by any manager so there's a lot of skilled 'art' in play.
More importantly though, it's about development potential and particularly so with KMc who is a fantastic developer of players. You do persevere in terms of game time with players who you think can go on to be the best option in say a year's time - particularly if the realistic targets of the club are to rebuild for a season and get back to the top level for the next season.
Specifics: Woolfy was great on the ball, better than O'Shea at carrying it forward between box and half way line, did pretty well in the Prem when he got the chance, but he lacks pace and that's a big no no if we want to establish ourselves there. O'Shea has better pace and is stronger than Woolfy, particularly in the air. Woolfy would have been more than fine for us in this division, but we need to develop a PL ready pairing.
Burgess (and Kipre probably similarly) are great big strong solid reliable defenders. Burgess was superbly consistent and had fantastic judgement which meant he rarely exposed himself to getting done for pace. His integration with Davis in particular was excellent. Burgess was probably better than Greaves last season, would probably have been better than Greaves early this season, but Greaves has pace, carries the ball really well and when he's on his game is a very solid defender who uses his size well to win contests on the ground and in the air.
It's all about development with Greaves - he's definitely not on his game at the moment, gets caught wrong side far too much and makes some bad last ditch decisions, but we have half a season or so to tune up an O'Shea/Greaves partnership which would be the best option of all for the PL - if it works. I'd trust KMc above anyone to judge that and to make it work.
TLDR - If you look at it statically O'Shea/Burgess or Woolfy/Burgess might be in some ways a better partnership right now than O'Shea/Greaves, but the only partnership which could be truly PL-ready by the end of the season is O'Shea/Greaves, if KMc perseveres with them and gets the development right. My guess is he will.
Re your TL;DR, I said on another fairly recent thread that there wasn’t much point in being “Pl ready” if we don’t get to the Pl - we need points and the best team for *now* to get them.

Such a “close friend” of LW that he blabbed his mouth off to either a random stranger, or even worse, someone he knew was likely to spread the word with vitriol on this widely read platform.

While there might be some truth in some of your points, that's way, way, way OTT.

True, but I think we've got more than enough with a few departments misfiring to be in the top two or three at Christmas. If we need to go hardcore results before player development towards the end of the season then we do, but to sacrifice the golden opportunity to develop a PL ready squad now would be wrong, imho.

I agree, but that in itself is a club policy & can therefore quite reasonably be described as “political”.

You've had it in for LW for years. Despite being shown to be wrong on several occassions, you never waiver from this agenda.

Whilst I see what you’re alluding to I don’t agree. If your on field output equals a maximum of 6/10 with your current most in form 11, but could be 8/10 in a month or so by developing players with a higher ceiling, that’s a direct on pitch footballing decision. Nothing political about that whatsoever. Whether it works is another matter, and that’s what managers get judged on.

It’s worse than anything I’ve seen on here. Don’t know why Phil puts up with it as at multiple points it has bordered on libel, if anyone actually gave a sht what Arnie has to say

This is the equivalent of two footed challenge when the ball could have been shepherded out of play.

Tell us what you really think!
Very harsh.
Woolfenden was a bloody good player and servant for us, went through a lot and ended up playing at the very highest level on the way.
He should’ve played more last season but was what it was.
It probably was the right time for him to go but went with best wishes of course, apart from you

Personally always think he's had a questionable attitude I'm the sense that super laid back and more about the laugh then top level football. However this is way too far Arnie. He's an Ipswich lad and despite my above he contributed massively to our double promotion. He will always have my respect for that.
I think his recent behaviours and petulant comments/actions have let himself down more than anything. Makes it for me the easiest one of the squad to go which is sad given he's an Ipswich lad.
Wish him nothing but the best for his previous service but I'm more than happy he's gone now. Focus on elite mentalities in the club. Burgess was a model pro in comparison!

Watch the video of Woolfy after we lost at home to Swindon under Lambert and it shows that he had a brilliant attitude and will to win.
I can't blame him for getting frustrated. I suspect KM also knew what his thoughts were on the player. The move probably right for all.
Factoring transfer fees into lineup decisions has nothing to do with politics. Did that happen? I have no idea, but I don’t personally have any concerns regarding McKenna’s integrity.
An example of politics would be a player threatening to demand a transfer if their team selection demands aren’t met.
He wasn’t asked about Ipswich, so there was no reason for him to air his grievances. He put it out there because he wanted it out there. If he is to be pilloried, this is the proper place and time.
Haven't read the thread so probably already been mentioned but what he considers politics may simply be McKenna preferring his own handpicked players. If you go out and sign a player for millions and they are out of form do you drop them if you have a long term plan? If anything, Muric shows that McKenna can realise a mistake has been made but with players he believes in who were just out of form he is going to stick with them.
I rate Woolf. I wish him well but think his move was probably best for all parties after hearing this.
