The Pinkun Forum. I had a quick look to see how the disappointment was going. It’s fair to say they are not entirely happy. The best though was the comments on Nunez. What happened with him has really got under their feathers. I quote:

‘For me this sale confirmed that the club is totally disconnected from its supporters (and I am a supporter because Elliot has told me I am 😀).
The image of that little rat threading the pass that led to their third goal will stay with me for a long while.
Don't get me started on the PR coup handed to that lot and the antics of the little rat after the game.
I really find it hard to understand any Norwich City supporter defending this sale...........’

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

I don't think we should underestimate the damage that the derby defeat may inflict on them long term...

"16 years" was one of the few things they had left to cling on to, and now that's gone. When their players went over to the fans after the match, they were getting dog's abuse from a section of them, and the current squad will now always be associated with ending that run. The number of fans turning on them is likely to increase with every bad result. They're also in a stick or twist situation with the manager following the bad start to the season; feels a bit like our Paul Hurst appointment, so will be interesting to see if they tough it out - we didn't, and we all know how that ended.

Off the pitch, it looks like they're committing to a stadium redevelopment which seems to have been planned with very little input from the fans (another source of anger for them), and with parachute payments long gone it's clear that the owners also have little thought for the fans regarding player trading. One of the few things they have going for them at the moment is Sargent contracted until 2028!

Need to beat them at their place next year now to complete the job and re-assert that our East Anglian dominance is here for the long term.

And if you can just arrange that that game, half way through April, promotes us and relegates them, then all will be right in the world.

Don't forget keep a clean sheet against them too! We'll be in their shadow until we manage that, and I'll still be unable to sleep about three nights a week because of it.

Oh, and we haven't scored a headed goal against them by a red-haired player who was born on a Tuesday under a waxing moon for nearly forty years! The shame, of it.

It's an incredible turn around on that forum. Until Sunday there was a fair bit of positivity, even though Mannin was starting to get pelters. A lot more angst had been directed at Knapper the sporting director ( I think that's his role). The Nunez transfer was an amazing coup for them as he would have been available for free in the summer.

Move forward post derby day and the world is a lot darker with the folks up north. Posts like "What we are missing is a creative talent like Nunez" have been fantastic. The whole forum has gone 180 and are now baying for blood. To be fair some could have seen the writing on the wall but we all know that derbys can be tricky affairs.

It does feel like a corner has been turned when compared to the folk from the North. They seems to realise that as well and are a little bit envious of what we have (squad, manager, direction of travel of the club).

We all know how fickle this can be, should we not go up before th parachute payments run out then we could find ourselves in a tricky position but currently I have every faith that the lot in charge know what they are doing

The home ‘support’ can be very vitriolic, they did take to Dean Smith and once his unbeaten run came to an end the abuse meant that home games for them was awful. Players understandably hated playing at Carrow Road and the only good football was the away games. If the Bristol match starts to go wrong it will not take long for the Manning haters to make their feelings heard. It could quickly descend into something very similar to the Smith experience. The attendance for the WBA match was 24,000, the lowest for some time and that includes ST holders, so casual sales has bottomed. The crowd has always been entitled and especially since they have had a period of reasonable success, one or two of them are now saying that club is now reminiscent of us under Evans.
Lovely to watch.

The best thing for us is for them to miss relegation by 1 place and bad blood to ensue. This followed by 10 years of the same.

The worst thing that can happen is they are relegated and that way will be under different financial rules and can throw money at rebuilding.

It made me realise how patient we are as a fan base. We waited 16 years, yet they still spat their dummies out and have gone into full meltdown. They can say its not about the derby all they like, but we all know that if they had beat us they would be on cloud 9 right now and knapper and manning would be the messiahs. It was all they had, and now we have the past, present and future superiority over them yet again.

Great to beat the Budgies. But in the grand scheme of things whilst a highlight of any teams season is to beat a bitter rival it is only three points and one game.
I believe we have a great squad, one that can get better still. Whether we will go on a run like we did when we last got promotion is open to debate as there seems to not only be the three that came down, but also a few other teams showing good form.
There can be no doubt that the squad we have should at the least be top six. It is whether we have the firepower to get into the top two.
I'm not sure Hirst will give us 15 to 20 goals so whether Azon can do that again I am not totally convinced, then again a dozen each wouldn't go amiss.

It didn't feel particularly big to me before the game (not like previous seasons) and, whilst it was nice, it doesn't really hold much importance now. On to Boro and bigger things like catching up Coventry and really imposing our nicely developing team on the Championship for the rest of this season.

I think, as in recent seasons apart from last, most of our goals will come from the supporting forwards - that's just how it works for the well-oiled, one up top, machine that KMc is busy upgrading at the moment.

Oh I think everyone realises it’s just three points at the end of the day. But the thread is very much about enjoying the pain of our nearest and dearest up the road - especially as they have another week nearly before they can move on.

Let’s face it, over the 16 years until two years ago they were better than us. Ok, there were a lot of draws and seasons in different divisions - but they were still better than us in every way bar an empty trophy cabinet and a disgusting kit. They are not better than us now - and they still have an empty trophy cabinet and a disgusting kit. There’s no harm in enjoying the moment before getting back to business on Friday.

To your point, we have the players and the firepower to make top two. What concerns me is how long it’ll take for this team to really integrate and start fulfilling their potential. They’re still finding their way and a good win against a poor Norwich cannot disguise that. Home form is strengthening but we do need to start dominating teams away.

My expectation is that we will be stronger after Christmas. That follows the pattern of the previous team learning what McKenna wants from them. I also saw signs of the ‘two team’ game he plays emerging last Sunday. The subs came on and devastated tiring Norwich - the first time the subs looked truly effective in doing that.

As for Hirst, he’s no Marcus Stewart or Alan Brazil on the goalscoring front but he brings an awful lot to the team. If he and Azon contribute a dozen each, fine as long as the rest are scoring. Again, a feature of McKenna’s last team was goals from everywhere. How do you cope with that at this level? Most sides: not very well.

In conclusion, I am not too worried about others. There’s not the strength of Leeds, Leicester or Southampton of two years ago. It’s really up to us. I would put top two as a target but my expectation is top six because of the inexact science of a team coming together.

But this last week and a few days more, let’s enjoy the suffering up the road. Cruel? Yep. Hey ho.

My expectation is top one.

Because we're not relying on having a squad or a manager which is better than the rest of the division.

We have both.

(and crucially, no-one's really got away from us before we've started to get our momentum going)

I can understand why they are bothered by the Nunez bit. The way he celebrated post-match gave me the impression that there was some animosity behind the scenes that precipitated his departure. Some players won't even celebrate goals against former clubs, but he really played it up.

This is not at all intended as a criticism of Nunez. I'm glad we have him and it was a beautiful pass.

I did read some of their comments regarding that transfer. Granted not in the majority, but a fair few were posting that they want to see his leg broken.

Now TWTD isn’t perfect, but if someone posted that they would be heavily criticised by many and probably banned by Phi.

Probably indicative of where that are at.

Re parachute payments running out:

Jaden is now probably worth at least as much as we got for Omari, if we do end up needing to sell next Summer.

We have a number of sellable assets, and several of them would tide us over for a year on their own.

Personally I would like us to put in a £25 million bid for Sargent. Just for shts and giggles.
