I'm not sure both are necessarily true. There are quite a few teams having a mare early season, definitely. And clearly Sunderland have something about them and look a huge outlier for any newly promoted side.
But Leeds are 15th, Burnley 17th, above only the 4 teams who are struggling, having beaten only the teams below them in reality. Good luck to them and we'll see how it progresses but I'm not sure it points to anything much at all different with promoted clubs, especially at this stage.

They have more wins than we did last season at this stage, but I remember feeling like we were in with a chance of staying up till January. Wolves, West Ham and Everton all had terrible starts last season but eventually sacked managers/got going and shot up the table. I'd like to see all 3 teams stay up as I believe that will make the premiership weaker next season, but wouldn't be surprised to see 2 of the 3 still go down. |  | | |

Just looking at the League table from last year at this point, the 2 things that stand out are:
Wolves are on the same number of points and actually have a better goal difference than last year. However I don't think that have anywhere near as much quality in their team. I don't think they're underperforming this year.
Burnley and Leeds are only 2/1 points (respectively) better off than Leicester were at this point, but both with 1 worse goal difference. They've not really done much exceptional yet and could very easily get drawn in still.
Sunderland are the only ones looking like they won't be involved in a relegation dogfight at this point.

It's a strange one because from an Ipswich pov you kind of want the promoted teams to come straight back down, so if we do fail to get promoted this season we won't have compete next year with some team who have had many years of PL money. Also would make me feel better about our own inability to stay up after promotion.
But at the same time the system is totally broken and for footballs sake there has to be the possibility to establish yourself as a PL team, likewise jeopardy for the likes of Wolves and West Ham who underperform year after year and yet stay up because the gap is so big |  | | |

Agreed, Sunderland seem to have found some magic, that no promoted team has found in absolutely years. They're second in the league FFS! And massive good luck to them, fair play.
But this silly moany narrative that everyone else who has gone up are doing amazing and we should have done the same and somehow we messed up a straightforward task is untrue, unhelpful and unnecessary.
It's fecking hard, hardly anyone stays up, let alone easily, we'll learn from it and surprise surprise we could have done things better with hindsight, dredging it up every time a promoted team wins or grinds out a draw is very tiresome. [Post edited 27 Oct 7:02]

Indeed...only two of our Prem squad were considered good enough for that league, and one of those can’t even get a game now for a bottom three team. Tells you everything and shows that there will be many changes needed if we do get back up. Hopefully we learnt from our own experience and from what has happened this season that pace, physicality, adaptability, attitude, concentration, application, teamwork and organisation are as, if not more, crucial than pure footballing skill and we can perhaps identify players in future who possess more of those traits | | | |

Prior to this season, Leeds have spent three of the previous five seasons in the PL with Burnley having a similar record. With that in mind, both of their squads should be more PL than Championship (what with continuous parachute and PL payments).

If we can pull it together and get up this season, on current trajectory we probably won't get a much better chance to stay in the PL than next season. The more promoted sides that stay up, the better for those coming up. |  |
