McAteer's best game so far 15:41 - Nov 8 with 2361 viewsbournemouthblue

actually taking on the full backs

Still playing balls that Vardy might attack but not so much the penalty spot cut backs that McKenna favours

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

I can see why we signed him. You can see he has a brilliant football brain, but I do worry about his footballing ability. He leaves a lot to be desired. Often poor execution IMO.

Watch him go and score now…

Hard to argue with that, he does seem to make good decisions, you can see he'll be a far better player when his confidence picks up

I'd agree he probably is a bit limited but a solid enough player at this level

Can’t question his work rate. He gets himself into some great areas but his final ball and bit of quality is often lacking, so frustrating.

There is a lot to like about McAteer.

He's still young and learning...he gets into some really good positions...needs to work on that final ball.

Like his attitude and work rate as well.

Definitely improving, seems to have cut out that constant attempt to pass it directly through a defender, and is now just under- or over-hitting the crosses a bit, but going the right direction.

Really? Right from the start he's given the ball away 3 times with passes underhit/too close to the opposition. Gets in great positions but I could do that!
Been the weakest link so far IMO.

I think people are (understandably) being a bit generous but for £12m he’s hugely underwhelming. Works hard but his quality or lack of is a concern. As you say he’s lost some really cheap possession and that one he got in behind and put over the bar was criminal.

He brings pace and physicality, if he can find an end product he'll be decent.

A lad I used to play with used to say that I had one of the best football brains he'd ever seen. He'd then go on to point out that I also had two of the worst football feet he'd ever seen.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Not sure he has pace. He tried to go outside the full back and was comfortably matched and held off. A major issue for this side is that there is really no one who is properly quick.

In fact the more I see the more frustrated with him I am getting today.

So many good opportunities to make a difference but never the bit of compsure, vision or class needed to make it count.

I’ve defended him a lot in the past but was underwhelmed today. Nothing seemed to be coming off in the first half, and then it all got a bit hectic and I forgot to keep an eye on him after half time.

His a rich man's Kayden Jackson, Sindre is years behind in age but years ago in footballing terms. A squad player yes a first eleven player only if you want to be a average side.

Looked more confident today, but don't think he is an upgrade on Ogbene, so might as well have waited for Ogbene to get full fitness

£12m though? 🤦🏻‍♂️
We were panic buying at that point.
We should have stuck with wonder kid Egili, he’s light years ahead of MacAteer.

Hmmmmm... interesting views and reactions to McAteer performance on 22:16 - Nov 8 with 966 viewsunstableblue

The 24 year old just hasn't showed enough attacking guile and ability to beat the man prior to today, to win me over, and the price tag has started to look too high.

(I had been fairly underwhelmed in Ogbene (28) in his brief spells for us).

McAteer (24) joined, and the vibes from the Foxes fans had also been underwhelming.

But I agree today was his best performance, and some of his defensive work, closing, atheleticism and reading the game was strong - which people seem to be ignoring.

The negativity is stemming from the end product from multiple attacking moves from the right.

Firstly he did well with running to get in some of those positions - but the two low crosses were too far in front of team mates, despite being dangerous.

And he overhit one.. which is the moment a lot of negative sentiment is stemming from.

BUT, if he can hone that final product, the guy has some good attributes.

So I won't be writing him off just yet. And his legs can be a good back-up to Egeli.

Think it's clear we have very much stuck with Walle Egeli, who in nobody's world is going to start every game at 19 having come from basically a different planet in the Danish league! McAteer is clearly a different option who has shown some encouraging signs in the last couple of games, and will do ok for us as he better understands what is a very specific role on that right side for a player with his straight-line speed.

I don't think he is the disaster some were making out but isn't overly flashy for his price tag

I've been told we only paid about £5 million upfront and the rest will be paid sometime later, I can't say how accurate that is or where that information came from but that's what I am told

Walle Egilli was not a done deal when we signed McCateer,
Wes Burns was sidelined,
And Ogbene was no where near the level, still recovering from a long lay off...

We needed a body in the building for the RW position..
Price is irrelevant, as parachute clubs will always have to pay more..

I like McCateer. But appreciate that his skill set is not that of Jack Clarke, Philogene or even Walle Egelli.... He's a grafter and runs for the team. And I'm assuming that he's very low maintenance for KM, too.?

Much like Azon. He hasn't had the luck in front of goal, imo... Unlucky not to score today, from a flick that went over..

His product was still lacking at times yesterday, but it helps that we've now got a number ten actually willing to play passes in behind.
