Ronnie Moore at Rotherham waved goodbye to them i seem to recall after he got the nod but it never happened IIRC?

Wasn’t he prank called by someone pretending to be Sheepy? Fell for it hook, line & sinker and started telling people he had the job.

Billy Bingham turned us down, we appointed SBR as our 2nd choice.

No, Frank O’Farrell on that occasion, he had agreed and then had an offer from Leicester who we then beat later in the season to help relegate them.

Not so sure it’s them taking a while or no one really fancies it.

If only there had been a break in the busy season to get someone in. Oh.

What a *bizarre* appointment that is. Rangers fans hounded him out in a similar fashion to Russell Martin. And anyone cooing over a managerial record in the Belgian Pro League needs their head testing.

Can't imagine him galvanising their squad. An appointment that you'd understand more if they were in a summer rebuild, not 23rd and staring down the barrel at the third tier.

Norwich fans seems to think it’s a bit of a coup.

Started really well at Rangers and came in after a similarly disastrous time mid-season after taking over from Gerrard’s assistant who I can’t remember the name of. Ended up being a bit of a failure and lost all of the big games domestically (although was alright in Europe).

Definitely not a sure thing of an appointment but semi-interesting that a club like Norwich seem to be shopping in the same pool of managers as Rangers (Martin/Manning/Clement).

That’s true. Robson was by no means first on the candidate list. O’Farrell and Bingham, who I think preferred to stay at Plymouth (correct me if I’m wrong) both didn’t fancy it. That ended well for them and of course McGarry who soon regretted jumping ship to Wolves.

Robson was appointed while scouting for Dave Sexton at Chelsea following a chance meeting with an Ipswich Director. He’d been unemployed for about a year after being kicked out by Fulham. He found out he’d been given the boot from an evening paper billboard, I believe. Nice.

Either way, despite having been an England international and a very good career, Ipswich as then a 1st division club took a real risk on him. What judgement by John Cobbold and the Board. Cobbold looked further than pure skills and track record. The person, integrity, stuff like that. Very unfashionable now but his judgement was spot on as employing two of England’s greatest managers showed.

The Board’s only failure in that period was Jackie Milburn. A legend of the game and a lovely bloke, he just wasn’t suited to management and soon realised it. Cobbold even then tried to persuade him to stay. Loyalty was important.

Yeah, outside of Belgium, he's had bright starts and slowly but surely his dour, abrasive demeanour has seen him fall out with both Monaco and Rangers dressing rooms. Hopefully the same happens at Carra Rudd. He's certainly not a warm personality their fans will unite around.

And is it really a big deal that Rangers managers would go for Champ clubs with bigger budgets?

….in some ways.

Every manager they appoint and every player they sign is greeted with such massively over the top enthusiasm.

We need to get on twitter quick and start bookmarking the posts. Add them to the Manning ones, the Knapper ones and the ones about their midfielder(?) with the big arms.

They never learn.

Seems a strange one to me. But given their track record, I’m sure they know what they’re doing. Oh….

I noticed on their forum, some bang on about his CV. But doing ok in Belgium and failing in a two horse race in a tinpot league seems a bit like they’re at the bottom of the barrel.

Still, they all seem excited by it.

...I expect he'd take anything offered to him.

Obviously the issues that put O'Neil and Thomasson(?) off weren't a concern to him.

His issue is that he's always relied on getting off to a fast start to get the fans onside, if he doesn't do that with them there isn't really anywhere to go and they'll start waving their burning pitchforks at the divs in charge yet again.

Just going by his wiki page, he seems to do better when managing smaller clubs.

He’s been out of coaching since February and has never coached in a really competitive league such as the Championship. He’ll probably get them out of a relegation fight but think he’ll fail to reach the playoffs which is where most Norwich fans think they should be.

I think next season they’ll start quite well but he will jump ship to manage a bigger club which ultimately will be his aim having managed Ranges, Monaco and Club Brugge.

11 games in 42 days starting from Saturday. He isn't going to have long to get his ideas across and implemented. If he has a poor-average start he is already going to be under pressure by 5th January, especially if he isn't as good at PR as Lambert was here.

He had a decent enough record at Monaco to be fair, and managed in European competitions. I appreciate one can be sniffy about the French league, but we're talking about coming into a championship club staring down the barrel of League One.
