Someone who can poach a chance.

Hirst is a shadow of his former self and Azon just hasn’t got the finishing boots we need.

Desperately need a finisher in this team.

There was nothing to poach. Hirst worked his nuts off too but didn’t get any support.

Hirst is rubbish. He wouldn’t get in 50% of the leagues teams and that’s the truth. Not sure he’s ever had the ball at his feet for over 5 seconds and not lost it - always tries to play the first time ball because he’s so sh1t with it at his feet

Hirst has nobody 10 yards of him most of the time. Hasn’t been great this season but he’s fighting a losing battle having to deal with the pitiful service he gets from those behind him.

Let’s go get Kayden back too while we’re at it as the right side doesn’t seem to be working

Would have him ahead of McAteer.

I was thinking the same regarding Hirst. Nowhere near the level of the player who bulldozed the Barnsley defence in 2023. I’d start Akpom at Blackburn.

You’d start Akpom up front - who’s main intent on the pitch is to dive and gain free kicks - rather than attack and try to score?

Hirst is a target man who now receives almost zero crosses. Both our left and right wingers have refused to cross to him with their wrong feet this season. The only conventional winger (same-foot as wing) we've had this season has been McAteer, a player who offers less attacking threat than most attackers in the 7th tier of the pyramid I used to play at. I don't see how swapping the target man will change that. If Burns had been playing right wing like during most of Hirst's time here, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

We need to create chances for strikers before we can say they can't take them.

For the amount of money ploughed into this team, we're abysmal for the most part.

Exactly this. Nobody seems to be able to hit Hirst, which shouldn’t be hard as he’s not exactly a moving target. Need to give Akpom a run at 9 IMO

We could have Harry Kane at #9, and he still wouldn't be able score for us, becuase he'd suffer the same lack of service our current strikers do!

Sort out the service to the striker IN the box so he doesnt have to drop to the half way line looking for the bloody ball!!

How about coaching that McKenna instead tippy tappy walking pace out of defence....

This - you could get Harry Kane in but if he’s not getting the ball he’s not going to score.

That Walton was the busier keeper tells you how little we created (and only scored with a set piece).

Yep, having loads of possession is great but all for nothing if your not creating.

Quite. The only one I can think of where a poacher has a tap in was McAteers ball across 2 yards out. It was crying out for a striker to be on the end of it, but there was nobody there. I think it comes back to a lack of understanding between the players. A good working partnership and the striker knows that’s where the ball is going. Just like two years ago with Leif and Chappers - Leif could be instinctive as he knew Chappers would drop into space for a cut back, so he’d already decided what he was going to do and that saves time and makes the game look easier.

A new strikers doesn’t change anything imo

Hirst was living off scraps.

I remember, back in the early 60's, enjoying a bag of scraps from Capocci's, the chippy on Reynolds Road, for just 1d. Don't get them nowadays, but I could live off scraps.

To be honest I thought Hirst was fine last night, I accept it has been a struggle for him at times this season. It's interesting to me that Akpom has come on ahead of Azon in the last two games. We spent a lot of time chasing the Spaniard over the summer, I'm really not convinced he is up to the task.

I think this is polarising opinion here, but (to all) where does Hirst position in your top 10 strikers? 25? 100? Kieran likes him as he has a particular role, but if we don't have a goalscoring or assist making 10 then he has to chip in with more goals.

I've said in an older thread that we either need to buy with one eye on the Premier or we get a loan. I think we have one space left.

Then there's Chaplin. Do we recall him, does he want to play for us or can we even recall him.

Should we get promoted we need to move a lot of players on, especially if we go the Sunderland route so recruitment in January will be very difficult.

If you liked my post, please take the time to upvote it. It's very much appreciated.

Walle had 2 decent chances , now I don't want to pick on anyone as he had a decent game and is improving but we needed one of those to go in or the one Hirst just put by the post .
