I'm no monarchist, but I find that comment rather insensitive. I don't think there's any need for that. Cancer is a mother f**ker, it has no regard for your social standing or your wealth. It'll still chew you up and spit you out, if it wants, no matter what you throw at it. Quite often it rears its ugly head again once it has its hooks in you, too. I imagine it's f**king scary for anyone on this planet, regardless.

jeez. that's really pure hate.

I know that all too well, having lost an incredibly close family member to the disease about two months ago. Unlike Charles, she was left at the mercy of the NHS, and delays in her initial care undoubtedly led to her passing. Whilst I wish absolutely no ill towards Charles, using him in this sort of context is an absolute kick in the teeth to those who've had to experience the reality of cancer when you're not a multi-millionaire.

Sorry to hear that pal, it's an all too common story though. 3 of my grandparents went that way, and my stepdad was taken 2 years ago at the end of November just past. For him, we thought we had got through it after it was found in his liver and removed, but a few months later and it had consumed him. The last visit I made, he was unrecognisable, and gave me a hug that I'll never forget. It was a real life-force moment (if you understand what I mean?), like that first hug between you and the person you've always wanted to get close to, that kind of thing, when you can feel the electric, the emotion. He held me tighter than he ever had, he knew the end was near and was scared. I miss him. Anyway, I'm probably oversharing. My point, though, is that, he could sit up in his ivory tower and ignore that suffering that is going on below him. Concentrate on keeping himself well, but he is choosing to try to raise awareness. Your experience (and most other people's) is that time is short when it appears, so the absolute best chance anyone has to beat it, is to catch it as early as possible, to give the NHS more time to deal with it. He has a large audience, regardless of anyone's feelings on the monarchy, and it's being used for good here. [Post edited 12 Dec 15:25]

What a disgusting post. I've just returned from the funeral of a dear friend who passed away from pancreatic cancer just five months after her diagnosis. Cancer doesn't distinguish between race, colour. class or wealth. [Post edited 12 Dec 19:57]

Having had Cancer myself 12 years ago and during that time I lost my mother to it,and before that I lost my father and a brother to it,I do kind of see what you mean. The trouble is it takes no prisoners and I’m sure most of us on here have lost loved ones from this disease at some point in their lives. Of course the King of England can receive better care or treatments that’s just how it goes.

You are right. Cancer takes no prisoners and I’d be very surprised if there is anyone who hasn’t been touched by it, whether personally or through family and friends. You are right re Charles. He will inevitably get better treatment. It shouldn’t be that way, but sadly it is and I suspect always will be. I abhor privilege in all its forms, but I doubt the pursuit and protection of it by those that possess it will change anytime soon. It’s a human nature thing, sadly. Anyhow, Charles will have gone some to have received better treatment than Mrs C got last year. I’m no monarchist but from a pragmatic perspective if Charles can do anything to raise the profile/push for better treatments that has to be a positive thing.
| Abdication looming?? on 09:01 - Dec 13 with 202 views | DJR | My mother was born around the time of the Queen, and I always thought the Queen would outlive her by some time because of the Queen's better medical treatment but it turned out the Queen only outlived her by about a year. My mother died as a result of a silent hypoxia (hidden low oxygen levels), something I wasn't aware of until she couldn't get out of bed two days before she died. Had it been picked up earlier, she could have been treated but her oxygen level had dropped too low. With the following behind her, I don't think the same would have happened to the Queen. "The Medical Household is the medical part of the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom. Current roles include a Personal Doctor to the King and Queen, Physician to the King, a Serjeant Surgeon, Apothecaries to the King, Occulist to the King, Dentist to the King, Orthopaedic Surgeon to the King and Surgeon Gynaecologist to the Queen. There are also a number of appointments of physicians and surgeons to other members of the Royal Household. These include Apothecaries to all the Royal Households at Buckingham Palace, Windsor, Sandringham, Balmoral, Palace of Holyrood and Highgrove. A travelling physician accompanies Their Majesties on overseas tours. Medical arrangements at Buckingham Palace are overseen by a Chief Nursing Officer." [Post edited 13 Dec 9:03]

Neertheless, he's a human being, and none of us chose to be born into the families that we were. It's never right to "visit the sins of the fathers" (or grands-x 20 or whatever) onto the children (or grands etc.). If his publicly speaking out encourages even one more person to screw up their courage to the sticking place, get checked out, and thus survive beyond the age of 29 at which my bro died because he didn't get the lump on one of his balls looked at for a year or so, then good on Charles. In loving memory of my bro. R.I.P.
