| How we haven’t replaced Delap with quality is puzzling 14:32 - Dec 26 with 1540 views | melbs_itfc | I think it may have been mentioned before but our lack of clinical finishing in the box is concerning. I think we really miss the quality of Delap in that respect and I think it’s strange with all the money we have invested in other areas that is the one position we haven’t and it shows. Not doubting that we tried but can’t recall too many that we were seriously linked in the summer can you? | | | |

Who reminders the odd lot who thought Hirst was a better player than Delap? Or the ones with the equally ludicrous, although slightly softer opinion that we were “a better team” with Hirst upfront than Delap 😂 I like George, think he has a role to play here, but the idea that he’s anything other than a significant downgrade on Liam Delap is laughable. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I legitimately think this is a mis-quote Hirst was our main striker L1/Championship promotions (outside of injury) and a lot of posts I've seen have reminded people of that not stating "better with Hirst"

I don't remember any though technically, we won more with Hirst than with Delap, played better with Hirst than with Delap but that IS because we were being taught lessons in the Prem after an ahead of schedule return does that mean we are ACTUALLY better with Hirst than Delap? No, because Delap is better

Gaslighting. People mentioned that Hirst was a better team player than Delap as he brought others into the game, none of which is/was untrue. No one said "Hirst is better than Delap". Not like you to make up negative sh1t.

Actually, they did. Infact, he’s a BBC article where one of our supporters states that Hirst is a more complete striker than Delap 😂 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ckgn4vxkg48o There were a number of these kinds of views shared by people across various social media platforms. | How we haven’t replaced Delap with quality is puzzling on 21:11 - Dec 26 with 599 views | BloomBlue | But I would argue we have Akpom, Clarke and Szmodics who gave been leading scores in this league previously. So you could argue we have invested heavily in goal scorers for this league. It can also take time. Coventry for example bought Simms two seasons ago, and lots of people said he would score loads, he didnt in his first 2 seasons, this season he has. While now you have some Town fans wanting to send Azon back after half a season, they aren't prepared to give him 2 seasons.

Gaslighting. It was a regular convo last season. A few thought Hirst was the better overall player. Many thought we were a better team when Hirst played. I remember comparison threads with team goals per minute on the pitch, while the Brentford game was often cited for attacking fluidity. To be sure the majority disagreed but the minority still existed, and it wasn't a small minority on the second point. One quickly-found thread example below:

Hirst is decent enough but the goals and work done by Keiffer Moore for 5 months in 2024 rarely gets a mention these days. Hes a good striker in any team at this level. I'd be happy to have him back to rotate with George in place of Akpom.

Good strikers are the hardest, most expensive position to fill. Even my cat knows that. They’re not exactly lined up on a supermarket shelf. So getting in Hirst in L1, Moore in the Championship and Delap who made the club a few million pounds for one season was a key weakness. Yep, see what you mean. If the dig is at Gamechanger, I guess you are one of many that appear to have been far happier when the club was owned by Evans. Well, it’s a view I suppose.

It does seem a bit of an issue. We were light in our last promotion season (hence having to play without a recognised striker in December until we could get Moore in). It’s seems a tough position to fill with any quality though.

If we had 2023 hirst this season, i'd say we'd be sitting pretty near Coventry Unfortunately, we've not had that version of hirst and he hasn't had his partners around him banging in goals that he couldn't score Hirst was never prolific, i showed some stats recently which showed even in promotion season he had missed 10 clear cut chances, same has he has already this season But he had chappers, burns, broadhead, hutch, chipping in with goals, but also morsy and loungo this season, it's kinda felt like we're waiting on philogene or clarke.
