Fortunately the news came in before my Portsmouth-bound train was getting into Gatwick Airport, so I reversed direction and got home about 20 minutes ago. Just as well I didn't opt for the train an hour earlier, and my £14.10 ticket was an off-peak return

Maybe, with a new year and all that, you and Joey could try to be nicer?

| Game off (n/t) on 13:17 - Jan 4 by crouchendyachtclub | -7 overnight with wind chill unlikely to get above 0/1 all day. Probably didn't yesterday either. Wind chill doesn't allow the ground to get colder than the actual temperature but it will prevent it warming back up. Like I said it's gamed but it's also more than a mild frost and as has been stated elsewhere the non league pitch is artificial. |
Was it really -7 overnight? The apps I looked at beforehand suggested it was much closer to 0 than that.

| Game off (n/t) on 12:49 - Jan 4 by You_Bloo_Right | " ...but I would expect nothing less" And that, for me, encapsulates yet another problem with the modern game to rank alongside keeper "injuries" to allow for in game coaching, players feiging head injuries, "simulation" and "he has a right to go down there". Corinthian it ain't. |
Got to be a killer if you want to be the king. You either play the game as it exists in front of you and the rules allow for an element of gamesmanship. Keepers taking a breather and right to go down fall within that to me, simulation does not. I'm not saying I like it but with the money that ats stake it's naive to expect otherwise.

Just looked on the Met Office website - the lowest temp at Fratton Park in past 3 days was -3.5C at 7am today, since when it has been steadily rising, was +0.7C at llam & was +3.1C 45 minutes ago.

Clubs that have matches postponed these days in the Championship or Premier League should be kicked out. We have had undersoil heating at PR a long time. Did Portsmouth make any attempt to prevent the game being off ? What now, a game when our fixture list is crowded and a midweek game at stupid o-clock.
| Game off (n/t) on 14:34 - Jan 4 with 774 views | hammo56 | Got 20 minutes from Portsmouth and turned the car around. Mind you not as bad as when I followed England away and got to the stadium in Warsaw and the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch even though the stadium had a roof but they had decided not to close it. | | | |

Indeed, the nearest met office weather station to Fratton Park isn’t even in Portsmouth… Both show a frozen pitch for the past couple of days though so the difference isn’t particularly relevant. [Post edited 4 Jan 14:41]

West Brom, Villa and Wolves are all within 6 miles of there. Shirley one of those was at home that day?

Normally the tickets are valid for the re-arranged game though if you can't go you'll be able to sell the ticket back to the cub. club will make an announcement in due course re APP but I'd suspect that they will be removed as the game wasn't fulfilled

For Blackburn the away point was kept but you could get an extra point if you went to the rearranged game. I imagine they will do the same for Portsmouth, given the point stood for the Rotherham game cancelled before kick-off. Indeed, I can't imagine many people didn't get at least some of the way to the game before hearing of its cancellation, and what is to differentiate someone who went all the way from someone who managed to turn back. After all, two of my friends stayed last night with separate friends/family in the area. There is also the cost of travel to bear in mind: a train ticket in my case. [Post edited 4 Jan 17:19]
