Would be nice to have a cup run as long as it’s not at the expense of promotion ie sustaining injuries to key players. Would love to see the likes of Baggott and Humphreys given a run in the side assuming they are retained plus it will keep Palmer involved and more match sharp should we need him in the league. |  |

I get it. But I hate the modern approach of rotation and deprioritising. The money in the game these days has done some amazing things, but this unintended consequence hasn’t been great. | | | |

Clubs struggling don't improve after being kicked out of the cup and those doing well don't falter because of cup runs. A good cup run can create momentum and benefit the league games. As we have seen the last two seasons, losing and winning momentum and belief are critical to a football club. When we were mid table championship for a decade we never had a cup run and it made no difference to anything other than the general feeling of malaise around the club. It certainly did add to our league form.
Our squad is big enough to deal with cup games without playing completely fringe players. Favourable draws can see you into last 8 if you play a proper team. If we are ever to think we are Premiership quality then no one should say we can never win the Cup.
