Yes, was impressed with him when he was here with Fleetwood (seems a lifetime ago). Seem to remember him and Sam had a right good battle that day. Can’t believe he’s only 24
Better to stay silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt

I guess it's another case of a very good lower league player left behind by the player's club. MK could be a goof move for him to kick on again over next couple of years

Thank you, thought that was the fella, incredible how time has passed. Not sure how he's got on, but that on paper alone looks like a great signing for them at that level.

He was wanted by fans that actually watched our games.
There was definitely a lot of noise from support about wanting to get him, but it was the classic 'player had a good game against us once' scenario I think. See also Jamal Campbell Rice for that once game for Rotherham a decade or so back.
His career since joining Sunderland somewhat suggests that he was already at his level. Hardly any games for Sunderland and a lot of loans back to League One clubs. A decent enough player, as to be a regular at league one level you have to be, but pretty limited outside of the hustle and bustle side of his game which is what impressed a lot of our support.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I found it quite scary that ‘that’ performance by Jamal Campbell Rice was twenty years ago.

There was a lot of clamour to bring him in after he put in a quality display against us, handling Morsy very well while still only 19 or 20 I think. He's definitely plateaued since then, which happens sometimes. He's still young enough that he might find his way back up to the second tier but perhaps the move came too soon for him.
My memory is terrible so I've had to do a lot of searching, but I was definitely there that day.
Matete played for Fleetwood at Portman Road on 23rd October 2021.
Town won 2-1 with Celina scoring in the 93rd minute. I do remember Morsy screaming in Matete's face right after we got the winner which was hilarious.
Matete and Morsy had a right old ding dong battle that day. I thought Matete was superb, and dare I say it, I even think that he had the edge on Morsy, which was unheard of in league one. I was raving about him afterwards and wanting us to sign him.
Might not have been a good idea, it was only one game after all, but he really impressed in that game. I don't know anything about how he progressed afterwards, clearly not as well as he'd hoped as he's signed permanently for a league 2 team.

Matete was absolutely class in that game. Amazed he’s now signed at that level but purely based on the few times I saw him that season. I do think the classic ‘had a good game against us once’ could help explain McAteer’s signing.
Not a Mummy. Don't have short arms.

I think our recruitment is a bit more sophisticated than that - although there was Gassan Ahadme…

Ipswich Town 2-1 Fleetwood Town - Match Report23rd Oct 2021 17:05 Bersant Celina smashed home an injury time winner as Town beat Fleetwood 2-1 at Portman Road to record back-to-back league victories for the first time under Paul Cook. Conor Chaplin gave the Blues the lead with a sharp shot four minutes after the break but the Cod Army looked to be on their way to a point after Callum Morton had equalised on 82 until Celina lashed home his first goal of his second spell with the Blues three minutes into added-on time.73
