I assume that wasn't a problem for you when he was wearing a Town shirt?

You assume incorrectly.

I think it was a problem for a lot of us ?

I think a lot of people were justifiably disappointed when he opted not to wear the armband on retweeted certain things on to his twitter timeline from some questionable public figures. It was often discussed on here.

Sorry disagree.

For any time an ex-player is on the pitch he is an opposition player. It really is that simple.

And "cheer up". Perhaps when those who berate the lack of atmosphere at the ground put as much effort into supporting the current team as those who sang Morsy's song when he came on.

Maybe by the odd lemon here and there, but nothing audible. It was sung when he was warming up. He got another standing ovation when he came on, followed by "blue army", and the biggest cheer of perhaps the whole evening was reserved for when he got a yellow card. Tbh, if he'd got a second most rational fans would've found it hilarious. And nonetheless given another standing ovation as he lef tht pitch. Indeed, I may have even joined in the song if he was sent off, arf.

Whilst I agree with your general sentiment, Morsy is unique. He's a club legend and not just any "ex-player".

It’s been discussed to death before - it’s totally fine that you and the majority don’t consider Morsy’s actions to expose any level of homophobia, it’s your perogotive- but for me, hiding behind religion when he’s previously been fine to wear shirts with betting sponsorship on, shows a level of flexibility in his religion I.E he actively chooses how/when to apply elements of it (as is his perogotive) he made the active choice to draw the line with showing any kind of visibility/support of the LGBTQ community - that’s a discriminatory choice and as such, homophobic.

But each to their own, I forgot he was playing after everyone got all dewy eyed, until Young told him to f**ck off.

I certainly remember one long thread about it, including several possible reasons why he may have chosen to not wear the rainbow armband, none of them down to homophobia.

You still haven’t provided any evidence to substantiate your allegation.

It’ll be a sad day for football when there’s no longer any human or emotional connection in supporting a team/club.

I was surprised last night, I have to say. Knowing this fan base, I thought we’d have spent 90 minutes singing his song. Instead he got a nice applause as he warmed up, little rendition of his song but as soon as he stepped foot on the pitch, I even heard people jeering him which I quite liked to be honest.

Aside from that, I love Morsy as much as the next person, but I thought he looked a bit of an old man out there last night. Looked slow in his play and didn’t think his passing was as crisp as it was when he was here. Appreciate he’s not played much football in 6 months, but I had expected a bit more from him when he came on.

Agree, think it was the perfect balance last night to be honest. I applauded him when he came down the touchline, joined in his brief song and clapped him on. Some low key recognition for a player who did so much for us, which I'm sure was appreciated and it felt appropriate.

Thereafter he was wearing the wrong shirt on the pitch, its about the badge on the front and it was a big 3 points at stake for us. I also sarcastically cheered his shanked effort on goal and told him to fook off when he was getting in that little melee near the end.

To the 99% who applauded him - well done. A classy gesture

Quite easy, you get to a certain age in life and recognise you're always surrounded by idiots 😉

I thought it was impressive how much some clapped for Sam, but gave no support to anyone on our team the whole game, whats up with that ?

It isn’t “weird” to want evidence that the person being accused of serious wrongdoing has actually done what they’re being accused of.

Or would you be happy for me to call you a “homophobe”, though I don’t have any evidence that you are?

Really happy you've "div listed" me, great result, cheers 👍

The day that evidence is no longer required before someone is judged & found guilty of something is, or would be, a tragic one in any any country of the world.

I'm absolutely fine with standing by that principle even if you're not (am actually quite shocked that you're not, I genuinely had you down as a decent person at heart even if we disagreed on some things. But hey, guess you won't see this anyway!)

Oh yes that got a few on here messed up they weren’t sure which way to turn.

In their perfect worlds they think any one playing for town should be saint like.

His religious beliefs told him not to wear the armband,I think it was up to him to do what he liked.

Good luck to him he was a great player for us.

Yep, this - I didn’t want to applaud him, but I don’t begrudge anyone else choosing to applaud the homophobe. Their choice, innit!

Maybe you are right about him, maybe you are not.

Either way I find it strange how quick we often are to just reduce someone's entire personality to one thing, attitude or event. Morsy? Homophobe. JK Rowling? Transphobe. The Royal Family? Nonce protectors. Someone says something in support of Israel? Genocide enabler. As if nothing any of these people do or achieve outside of that matters anymore.

I don't know what Sam's true feelings about the LGBT folks are. I don't need to. I can still appreciate and thank him for his contribution to our club. He probably would not appreciate my take on Israel/Palestine, but hopefully he would still respect me as a fan who paid to watch him play a few times.

I swear 90% of the conflict and abuse we see online would stop if people could just get over having to categorise everyone as 'team bad guy' or 'team good guy' on such limited data.

Massive straw man. I haven't seen anyone reducing Morsy; personality to one thing in the way you suggest.

They have, quite reasonably, expressed discomfort at his stance on the rainbow armband stuff.
