Does anyone ever ask the fans if we want this?

Given that the article mentions it, perhaps they could focus on proper enforcement of the eight-second rule for GKs first, before complicating things even further.

"Ifab focused on limiting disruption of play"

While introducing VAR into more situations.

We'll have a football game lasting 3 hours like that American 'Football' silliness at this rate.

How will the 'taking throw-ins within 8 seconds' thing work? From the moment the player taking the throw-in has the ball in their hands? It'll just mean that players will delay the moment they pick the ball up, and encourage the "accidental" appearance of a second ball on the pitch.

The article also says that on corners, decisions can be reviewed if they were clearly wrong, provided the check “can be done immediately and without delaying the restart”. - so that's basically never.

There will also be a 10-second limit imposed on players for leaving the field when substituted - again, how will that work? The requirement to leave the pitch at the nearest possible point seems to have been ditched. This will come in to great fanfare and then never be implemented.

Yep. The ref decided to forget that rule last night didnt he!

Does the rule still exist that if the ref gives a player a yellow, they cannot face retrospective action? Maybe that rule needs changing seeing as though Armstrong got away with pushing O'Shea in the face last night.

Oddly enough, it seemed he didn't forget it.

There were a couple of instances here he visibly reminded the Bristol 'keeper to release the ball, but then failed to follow up on his warning when the 'keeper continued to dally.

If they want to turn it into a farce there needs to be an extra official who can put a countdown clock on the big screen, and for good measure play Yakety Sak ( Benny Hill theme)/when the music stops if the keeper hasn’t released the ball, it’s a corner.

Not sure what they are going to do if goal kick isn’t taken in time. If it is a yellow card teams may need two keepers on the bench.

I won’t be happy until every pass is scrutinised and matches last 6 hours. We must ensure that pass completion stats are correct. Def info.

They do a visible 5 second count down. When that 5 seconds begins is another matter.

I'm pretty sure the Brizzle keeper held the ball for way more than 8 seconds last night early on. I was watching the seconds tick on the graphic while he was holding it. I was going to make comment on it on here but we scored not long after so forgot/didn't care any more (delete as applicable)

There's no point discussing VAR anymore, we all know the effect it's had on the sport.

Everyone who clamoured for it originally, you got what you wanted.

Anyone would think they're trying to shoe horn in more opportunities for commercial breaks on televised games.

Well I guess we can look forward to games lasting 120 minutes then. Just imagine travelling 5 hours to see your team play a game starting at 8 p.m. so half time comes around 8.50. The second half starts at 9.05 p,m. So given that the second half would last 70 minutes that's 10.15 p.m. before the game finishes. Possibly another 30 minutes before the coach sets off for home so that's 10.45 p.m.
5 hours travel time, so 3.45 a.m. before arriving at your drop off and even then it may be another half an hour or even an hour before getting to bed.
Sometimes these people who bring in these things live in a different world to others and have no idea of the lives we lead.

Hurrah.

99.97% of football matches played in England on a Saturday don't use VAR.

The LOTG are hopeless for helping referees prevent time wasting, 8 seconds for goal kicks and throws will help enormously.

Generally the 8 seconds "ball in keepers hand" is working well. Most refs only start to use it if the keeper's last kick went beyond 10 seconds or they are patently taking the mick. My game last Saturday I didn't use it once - ball was gone inside of 8 seconds all but once, and the once was an opposition player moving to get in his way.

This won’t last.

There will be a couple of cases where players are incorrectly given a first yellow card, but then correctly given a second, and all hell will break loose.

Then all cards will be reviewed.
