How did Morsy play last night? 12:49 - Jan 21 with 3224 viewsVic

I see he got on the pitch quite early, so had more than a cameo. I've seen the 5 min highlights and saw that he got booked, and got involved in a bit of a melee (so typical) but how did he play - and how did he compare to Azor?

Frankly, he was non-existent and ineffectual. Although that was partly down to us pressing and hounding so well from the front. I couldn't help feeling that he played as if he just wanted the evening over and done with.

Edit: He got booked. He did what he always does well. Simple, passing and moving.

On that, alone, and now we have all had chance to see Matsi develop, I'd have Matsi over a 34yr Morsy (I love Morsy).

I think there is more to Matsi's game than Morsy. His positional play is way ahead, his consistency is remarkable, though Morsy was good here.

He seemed to play within himself, sat very deep and done the absolute minimal.

He's also still working out Brizzle who are a decent team - but he was settled here, had partners all over the pitch. Evident last night the different that makes.

Nono im sure the TWTD hive mindset was players dont need to gel with their teams and be settled first they simply play excellent from the off and if they dont they're a waste of money, Wasn't that what people were saying earlier in our season...?

To be honest if it wasn't that he was a cult hero here I would not have known he was on the park. We gave him the ball continuously they played like he was still in blue.

He's hardly a cult hero. Definition of a cult hero is someone who is greatly admired by a relatively small audience despite limited success or ability.

When he played for us, everything went through him . During the match last night I noticed Bristol didn't use him to the same extent, so there were passages of pkay that he simply wasn't involved in.

More effective first half, he seemed to want to sit on Nunez and stop him playing.

Second half he just recycled possession, nothing more or less really. Not sure he could have done much more to be fair, we were so dominant and they didn't look up to much in general.

Yes, I agree with that. He looked to me like an actor in search of a role. They clearly didn't set up to have him on patrol and in receipt and the recycling of the ball whenever a dead end was reached. By the same token he didn't sit in a position to do that.

Neat and tidy, did his bit defensively, totally ineffective going forward. I didn't see the same hunger in his performance that he had at Town. Perhaps he couldn't bring himself to damage our promotion chances. After all, he gave so much to get us to where he wanted us to be.

Between the applause for him coming on and Ashley Young sticking it to him, I genuinely forgot he was on the pitch.

100% agree

I was watching him closely in the pre-match warm up and he was often looking across the pitch at all his old Ipswich team mates and coaches.

He was largely anonymous, though he’s probably still lacking match fitness, so it’s good that we’ve got that game out of the way.

For me a lot of it has been said but he genuinely seemed uninterested or that's how it came across

Quite obviously he's not the type to be "not interested" but that's how it felt and perhaps due to new systems , meeting old faces and a lot of other contributing factors

Great to see his face again , albeit it was only on TownTV for me

Will always be a class act for me due to his efforts at Town but I now have a new midfield maestro....oh how fickle am I !!

You could tell he hadn’t played competitively for a while, but still did okay. As other said, he got booked. Put himself about. Azor played better in my opinion.

I think in the melée (which Mick Mills always pronounces to rhyme with 'belly') he was acting as a peace-maker.

How I saw it,
But I believe we've developed more than the team he took up,
This team still has growth and wouldn't do as poorly as last years,

At times, I was just watching him and he reminded me of that infamous Jonathan Douglas footage from a few years ago. Disinterested and watching the game pass him by.
Brizzle fan said that after a good first game, he was like that in the second which is why he didn't start yesterday.

That’s harsh, he’s been playing very serious football in a very serious league in Kuwait.

Yes, he did a fair amount of pointing to guide his team mates where to move to

He reminded me of Warky during the final few games of his last spell with us. Great to see him back at PR, very glad we got a chance to show our appreciation to him and hopefully with a few more games some of the match fitness and a sharpness will return for him. Based on last night though, it was the right decision for all parties that he left us when he did.

Interesting comments. They seem to suggest that we can now move on from looking back at a former lover, hoping that maybe there's a chance of rekindling what we once had.

Someone said on another thread said that they felt it was like a page had been turned. Sounds from these comments like that might be true. Thanks for everything Sami, but onwards and upwards with the new group.
