Who genuinely thinks this silly tune is a good idea?
Sure it has it’s place, I wouldn’t want it banned, but it’s hardly an intimidating, partisan, and rousing club anthem is it!! It sounds more like a cocky knees-up with Chas’n’Dave. I genuinely cringe every time I hear it or see people trying to “sing” it.

Have a down vote from me. It's a song that can unite the whole fan base and when the whole stadium sings it together the unity itself is intimidating even if the lyrics aren't.

I think it has it's place. I'm not convinced it is best served as the crowd 'gee-up' at the start though. The original version is played over the speakers and it's a bit 'music hall'. Now, sang in an away pub by 20 or 30 or so blokes, I thought it sounded good, and it's ours.

I remember when this was first released, I guess it was around 1974. As a 12/13 year old, I bought the record, but immediately thought it was really cringey and embarrassing. I think we must have gone through at least 20 years maybe as many as 40 at PR where it was never played, but over the last few years since its resurgence, I have to say I love it now. I couldn't care less that it is corny, it's OURS. It's our anthem, it's unique, it's at least 50 years old, and everyone should sing it. |  |
