Dear me what a negative old boy. You wouldn’t think he was a summariser FOR us.

Saying the penalty wasn’t a penalty because Clarke didn’t go down instantly.

And how the ref didn’t have a clue about the added time and played on, and on… errr the game didn’t restart until 92:47 once the pen was scored.

Mills has always been like that to be fair. Unless we win he is rarely happy.

Mick's not a "summariser FOR us". He's employed by the BBC not ITFC. If you want partisan broadcasting, stick to TownTV.

Never forget that for ITFC the game changed in April 2021.

Exactly. If it was biased punditry it would be a complete waste of time. He’s paid for his opinion as former England and Ipswich player.

Mick Mills was one of my heroes as a kid, I even got a birthday card from him as a Junior Blue.

He’s clearly a club legend and nothing he says now will diminish that.

However, listening to him on the radio is hard work. Nothing seems to make him happy and his default position is negativity and caution.

Sometimes he’s right and other times it just sucks the fun out of football.

I think it’s the tone of his voice tbh.

He’s awful. Cannot pronounce Matusiwa nor Cajuste’s name. Didn’t even know Dan Neil’s name, kept referring him as the guy from Sunderland and talks absolute drivel. Please get him off air asap

I’m biased because he was “my” captain growing up but I find his comments far more insightful than the majority of other pundits. I appreciate his post-match analysis.

Ipswich captain in our most successful era, record appearances for the club, won two major trophies with us, England regular for many years, captained England, played in the World Cup, managed in the (now) premier league. Yes the game has changed in the 40 years since he played, yes he’s occasionally mispronounces a few names and isn’t always the most articulate but he’s forgotten more about the game than 99% of us will ever know. Plenty of alternatives these days for those who don’t want to listen to him but the day he’s no longer on the radio driving home from home matches will be a sad one.

Just listened to it. Sadly, as he’s obviously a club legend, it’s time for a more recent player to step up.

He’s demonstrably miles off it. I said it on here ages ago and got a series of very aggressive personal messages.

Step up to what exactly? Mills position as a BBC match summariser isnt (as far as I know) something that the club or players have a lot of say in.

His constant negativity annoys me, but you can’t really question his competency. He’s just unnecessarily negative much of the time.

Mills is a legend for me, and nothing will ever take that away BUT ffs he needs a little bit of positivity juice at least some of the time.

I'm starting to think the same.

The weird diatribe about the referee mucking up the added time to suit us (we played six minutes from the point at which Preston took a legal kick-off), the inability to pronounce fairly straightforward player names, and the strange assertion that we should definitely be getting Jebbison in from Preston (despite even acknowledging that he's there on loan from Bournemouth) were particular low-lights this evening.

I don't expect wall-to-wall positivity, but surely there must be a better option out there than Mick?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Wow. I really admire what he has done and achieved in the game.
However his rambling, "you know" summaries are terrible punditry

I find the continual mispronunciation of players names irritating and frankly disrespectful to the players in question.

Club legend or not, criticism of his commentary skills is perfectly acceptable and often justified.

FWIW, he was "my" captain too.

Mick Mills was very complimentary about us throughout the McKenna reign until Christmas of the Premier League. Indeed he even thought before Christmas of the Premier League season that we would survive.

Since then he has been less complimentary, but as speaking as someone who has barely missed a match home or away, since then, there has been a lot not to be complimentary about.

In any event, his supposed negativity (or in my view punditry) is nothing like the sort of negative nonsense that appears on TWTD.

And when he gets a chance (he did so a couple of weeks ago) he always waxes lyrical about Sam Morsy.
