| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

The Victorians liked to think their Empire the moral equal of the Romans and Greeks, so slapped doric columns on every other civic building to ape their civilisational forebears (as they saw it). Agree with you on this. I was drinking a fine drop of Porter today it came form Barnsley brewed by the Acorn Brewery and it was called Old Moor Porter, coming in at 4.4%. A fine drop it was to and cost the grand total of £2.99 a pint, now in my other town local that would have been £5.30,the good lady was drinking Carlsberg at £2.89 a pint again that would have been £5.60 a pint. You are also correct about the lovely old buildings they keep going.

Exactly and that is why when me and my good lady do manage to get a day out together,is why we head to the spoons more now.The price of the Carlsberg did it for me. Yesterday we ate in the spoons as well,it’s cheap and cheerful, basically it was half price what we’d pay in my other town local. But it was nice food and plenty of it. Not only that the spoons is at least warm, the other pub I use not so often now only runs the heating for an hour first thing,so not only is it expensive it’s bloody uncomfortable at times. The staff are always friendly as well and are good at their jobs.

I'm a big fan of the Spoons in Tunbridge Wells in the old opera house.

They already have one in Lowestoft (The Joseph Conrad) . But if it’s a nice building you speak of it sounds good to me.

The bloke that runs them is an absolute bellend, but I do like how they restore and maintain historic and architecturally significant buildings that might otherwise fall into disrepair or be unsympathetically gutted. I’d imagine receiving significant grant funding is part of their business model, but so what. At least they’re keeping those building going. If they were to go bust, the impact on the face of the high streets would be massive.

He’s about 6.5 and built like a brick outhouse. He’s a good old boy.
