just got back from Watford game, obviously a great result and a great time had
called someone out for being homophobic at the game, got repeatedly called a d1ckhead from a very angry an embarrassed man who carried on at it before later denying he'd ever mentioned Elton John's sexuality
train back a bunch of men being generally intimidating and singing songs about George Hirst hating Palestine. simply asked them why does George Hirst hate Palestine to which one of them said 'shouldn't start wars you can't win'
more and more of this weird behaviour going on at Ipswich games - witnessed a lot of this stuff in the past year where there seemed to be very little before

While I have sympathy with the original poster not convinced calling the offenders out is the best way to proceed. Surely it would be more appropriate to report the issue, first to a Steward and then, the next day, to email the club to give Ipswich Town an opportunity to look into it provide your seat number and indicate where those responsible were located.
It is an Ipswich Town problem , it may happen elsewhere but that doesn’t change the fact that our club has a problem that needs sorting.
Seeing how difficult it is to get tickets for away games it seems reasonable to assume the perpetrators are regular away supporters. The club might consider placing ‘watchers’ in amongst fans to help identify those responsible.

I heard a similar comment from someone around there in the first half, I wish I'd called it out but it was a quick comment - I moved seats second half. Absolutely bizarre and clearly moronic. I suspect if I asked any of those singing it to show me where Palestine is on a map, they'd probably pick out Portsmouth.
Personally, I wouldn't trust any of them with a vote on Britain's Got Talent, let alone anything important in this country.

You may have also noticed this but a lot of the racist or homophobic stuff seems to be coming from a very young part of our fanbase. Not the old racists stuck in the the 70's and 80's but from a generation we would hope to be far more tolerant and understanding as they have grown up in a multicultural country which far more progressive views on sexuality. |
Possibly, but I also think it’s a definite subset of that generation who are desperately trying to be something they’re not.
Same as my generation and the plastic hooligans who watched green street and all thought they were “lads” etc by playing at it.
I also think VT is right and that tolerating users on here who are frequently racist, supportive of racism and implied discrimination is a problem. |  |

It may just be me but since the point system was introduced I don’t recognise half the people I see when I go to away games these days.
Before when tickets were bit of a free for all I’d probably recognise about 80% of faces on an away day.

A lot definitely jumped on the bandwagon after the League 1 promotion, maybe even half way through when things were looking good, it was possible to build up a good points haul.

I confronted them outside Euston. As well as Hirst/Palestine, they were also singing something which I couldn't make out entirely, but included the words "from the river to the sea, *indeterminable* will be Abdul-free", and "on the charge with Farage".
To my surprise, only 2 of the group of 15 or so were interested in any kind of physical settling of differences, despite all the fancy dress and cocaine-fuelled bravado. Needless to say, I had the last laugh. And I'll have further laughs once I've completed my enquiries, or perhaps at Hillsborough (I'll assume they won't be at Stoke). |  |

No specific -ism or -phobia tone, but there was a chap near me lsast night who spent to whole of the match pretty match yelling, on repeat, something pretty much matching the pattern:
<insert player name> you F'in C, you're <insert expletive laden phrase suggesting they're not very good>, learn how to <something to improve>
The loop continued throughout 1-0, only calmed down fully at 2-0. Plenty of bewildered looks from other nearby toward the chap. I'm convinced I'm hearing that kind of thing more and more often, particularly at away matches. I just can't understand what anyone thinks it achieves (even if the players could hear the individual messages, which hopefully they can't). [Post edited 25 Feb 15:02]

He doesn’t. It’s just a copy of a Leeds song… which makes it even worse. Granted the context of the Leeds song / player makes more sense (Still horrendous thought), for Hirst it makes them look like absolute tools for signing it.

Reading some if these experience's make me glad I ront have the time or inclination to go to games anymore.
Travelling with Ipswich fans all over the country previously was good fun, seeing people every other week that you only ever saw on away days but spoke and acted like your best mate.

I must admit I struggle to understand the words of many of these newer songs which just seem a bit over-complicated for me.
But maybe some people pick up the lyrics online.

With you 100% there. You’ve got:
- Walton and Leif from L1 days
- Furlong, our very own sh1+house
- Dara, who never backs down from anyone, gave THAT speech, and led us to our first derby win in x number of years after it
- Kipre, monster in both boxes
- Azor, who wins every 50/50, 40/60, and most 30/70s, as well as being smiley and the Dutch player we’ve been crying out for for years
- Taylor, improved a lot this year and another one who’ll run through brick walls for his teammates
- JP/Clarke, top scoring, game changers
- Wes, is just Wes. Another L1 star, who’s somehow managed to comeback from an ACL injury better than before
- Hirst, he’s had a tough time this season, but he’s got so much credit in the bank, it really shouldn’t matter
- Azon, improving all the time, gives everything, and doesn’t seem to lack rapport with the fans
How anyone can say these fellas aren’t relatable, I really don’t know. No disrespect meant to those not listed above either. They’ve all given us moments this season and no doubt they’ll give us more. I like them all. |  | | |

This is a general reflection on society as a whole and imo has nothing to do with just 'ipswich town fans' - you can find comments and articles like this at every ground after every game in the last few seasons (not trying to justify it, but it's not an ipswich town problem). The rise of Reform will only empower certain portions of our population, which are potentially more condescend in football culture hence why you're feeling like you're seeing more of it... |
Agreed that this seems to be a wider cultural (or lack of!) problem. So we know the causes are not unique to us, but I also agree with the others that it becomes our problem when it’s our fans. We remaining fans and the club have a responsibility to tackle it. Fans can either speak out or report it and generally let others know on social media that it’s not acceptable and just makes us look bad. The club can obviously go further with warnings and bans.
I suspect you’re right that we’ll see it become more common as politicians play to this type of audience, sadly. |  |
