| Do we want to go up? 12:58 - Mar 8 with 2723 views | Wallingford_Boy | Seems an odd thing to ask, but is getting to the Prem what it’s all about? I mean, the cash would be handy, but we’re hardly skint. The Prem is a painful watch these days, no one taking risks on the ball anymore, sideways, backwards, sideways, diving, faking injuries, VAR, etc. I didn’t exactly enjoy last season and can’t really see next season being much different if we did go up. The championship is nice, we win quite a lot! Or am I just trying to make myself feel better after yesterdays result?! | |

May as well chuck it in and follow non-league football.

Valid point. I mean I probably do want to go up, it’s just I’ve so fell out of love with Premier League football!

I'd rather spend the end times watching town win in a league with a few other US owned entertainment and finance companies than struggle in a league dominated by filthy Gulf State playboys. Neither option is really ideal though.

Ask Sunderland or Leeds fans if they have enjoyed it this season. The championships is a great league for competitiveness and authenticity but the spectacle really isn't all that. Just a load of anti football teams who come to your ground stick 11 men behind the ball, waste time go for a point. Not to mention the terrible playing surfaces and called off games. Give me the Prem all day. [Post edited 8 Mar 13:25]

If it’s Cov, Boro and us going up, and we have some Sunderland, Forest, Leeds types we’d have a good shot I think.

Best scenario for me is the clubs that want to join any European super league can do so. They can never come back and we are in the top league with a better chance.

Agree, they would take most of the TV etc money with them but leave us with a better, more competitive competition. The current Champions And Also-rans League is a step towards it.

100% this, I cant really think of any other reason to be honest.
| Do we want to go up? on 14:17 - Mar 8 with 1841 views | franz_tyson | If we don't go up.... I can get over the disappointment pretty quickly. If we do go up.... then when the celebrations wear off, it'll be an "oh fùck" moment. We have to want to get promoted, because that's the challenge, but I absolutely hate the PL. If there is another drive to get a European Super League, I'd happily support it this time so we can get rid of the elite clubs. | | | |
| Do we want to go up? on 14:19 - Mar 8 with 1829 views | SWLondonBlue93 | We got stuck in the Championship before, and by the end that was soul-destroying. I know the ownership is different now but once the parachute payments run out you are always going to be swimming against the tide. | | | |
| Do we want to go up? on 14:19 - Mar 8 with 1827 views | Linners | Really didn't enjoy last season, although I have seldom been happier as a Town fan than when we beat Chelsea over Xmas. We almost have no choice but to want to go up, because that's what winning means. Otherwise, at some point, you have to hope to lose and I can't imagine ever doing that. | | | |
| Do we want to go up? on 14:19 - Mar 8 with 1827 views | Churchman | Yesterday’s result was ok. We didn’t lose and you can’t win every game. Yes, getting to the PL is what it’s all about. You strive to be the best you can be, there’s nothing else in my view. However, to contradict myself, I entirely agree with paras 3 and 4. The Premier League certainly is a painful watch. Live is better than on tv because one is spared the ghastly noise from the dreadful commentators bigging up the most tedious of watches, but it’s still not good. I enjoyed the bit last season where we walked out against Liverpool at home, but the fun ended at half time and the rest of the season was quite frankly miserable. | | | |
| Do we want to go up? on 14:23 - Mar 8 with 1791 views | Mark | I would be happy for us to go up next season, but after that we lose parachute money so we need to get promoted by then. I didn't enjoy the Premier League last time for all the reasons you mentioned. I found myself looking forward to the FA Cup match and women's game so I could see a win at Portman Road! | | | |
| Do we want to go up? on 14:55 - Mar 8 with 1649 views | Cheltenham_Blue | Do you want us to have a chance at an FA Cup, A League Cup, (or whatever it is now), a chance of Europe if we get in the top 7 or 8? Or do you want to watch us playing Stoke as they put 11 behind the ball for an entire game? And only ever win enough games to keep us exactly where we are? Sunderland should give you the answer if you aren't sure. | |

Indeed. The likes of Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs and Man Utd always finish in the top 6 and can't be beaten by any of the lower sides so it would be better never to play them. Seeing the top stars at Portman Road and potentially going toe-to-toe with them isn't something to aim for at all.

| Do we want to go up? on 15:08 - Mar 8 with 1574 views | bazza | Suppose it depends on the way we approach it, I’m sure Sunderland fans are enjoying it, if we establish ourselves and have a chance at a cup or a stint in Europe it’s not all bad, I’d take being a Brentford or a Brighton or palace no problem. And smashing the budgies if they ever got promoted. | | | |

Do I detect a little sarcasm!? Just putting the question out there, at times I doubt going up is for the best, but I also know deep down that I’m dying to get back to the promised land!

We don't play Stoke every game. And this season is immeasurably more fun than last season even if we've had hiccups along the way. For every Sunderland, there's far more clubs that get burnt. And we're more likely to become a club that puts 11 men behind the ball so we can avoid a drubbing at arsenal or Liverpool or Man City. Only 38 games as opposed to 46 which means more time between games so more b0llocks is talked rather than watching real football. Sorry, hated the experience and in the end relieved the season was over. And.... no offence to our current players.... but we've hardly got any PL quality players in our squad. Which means another reliance on our recruitment team to buy in a new team and I'm not sure they're up to it. Apart from that.... can't wait to get back.
| Do we want to go up? on 15:41 - Mar 8 with 1422 views | andyblue231 | Look too deeply at it and you can fall into quite an existential spiral. the only reason football is fun is because it matters if you win, but the idea that all winning gets you is turgid 11th place finishes in the PL is dispiriting. I think Palace showed the way though. the reason I want to go up is because you can only win things in the PL. That's the only way you can have players good enough to win cups. so that's what I tell myself - that promotion gives you the chance to win the Conference league or the league cup or the FA Cup. Which is why I get so angry at teams like Fulham and Sunderland for resting players in the FA Cup. I mean what is the point of all of this if after all that hard work, you throw away your chance. it's not possible for a team like us to become established in the PL. No team our size or a bit bigger has ever done it. even Aston villa have been relegated. Brighton, Brentford, Palace will all be relegated in the next ten years. the point is to use your time when you're at the apex of your cycle to bag a trophy and some memories to keep you warm in the inevitable dark days. because they're coming for all clubs of our size, no matter how many players you rest in the cup. Yes it's largely down to the money in short term, one can only hope that we could over take get back into europe at some stage but we're miles off that at present. | |
