City of Culture bid and local officials 12:49 - Mar 24 with 1537 viewsMullet

I’d love to hear from those who worked tirelessly for it, those who work boots on the ground around Ipswich day in day out regardless of their persuasion. What do they make of this Farage visit and the media Reform have put out?

How many times have local people been given a voice by the club to see this happen now?

Our owners must be staggered by the reaction too. I can forgive them for not understanding the implication, but surely they can’t ignore this. The club is the centre of the town effectively, and if the judging panel discounts the award on the Town because of the connotations of a Reform connection, then that’s a massive blow to those who worked tirelessly so hard for Ipswich isn’t it?

Given Morsy was posting tirelessly about Palestine and some of the ownership supposedly questioned this and voiced disquiet about it, surely this is worse? Farage has openly been antisemitic for decades and aligned himself with antisemites across Europe and the Atlantic.

Likewise we have had refugees as guests and part of the foundation programmes haven’t we? There is a hell of a lot of community bridges potentially burned in the wake of this stunt isn’t there?

I guess the only silver lining is that Farage picked 10 and not 88 to have on our shirt.

Apparently sponsors aren’t happy at all either, so if this hurts the club commercially as well as the Town it’s a major cluster…..

If this blows up as a national story., I'm going to be very wary about wearing anything with a Town badge on when out and about. The damage to our brand is horrendous.

The club have either been completely mugged off or are complicit.
If I was Halo or MSC, I'd be asking some very serious questions.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Doesn't surprise me at all that this is allegedly having a commercial impact.

Just waiting for something to be released that will absolutely kill the club's version of events - footage of Führage being met by club officials or suchlike.

I bought a couple of reduced-price training tops at the weekend, with a view to wearing them around the pool on holiday this summer.

They're still tagged, and I'm seriously contemplating returning them now, whilst making clear the precise reasons for my action.

Send it back mate, sure someone else would have them.

Send your season ticket back while you’re at it if you’re that concerned.

I think this about sums up the overreaction.

Christ alive. Are you trying to whip this up into even more of a frenzy? Someone you dislike/ vehemently disagree with visited the club. The visitor did their own video material, involving NO Ipswich Town staff members.

I firmly believe politics should be kept of football clubs BTW.

Very well put.

I wanted to mention Moray in a comment earlier, but didn't for fear that the pedants would jump on my comment and detract from the real issue here.

If I were to wear a Palestine Football Shirt to a game, I'd be asked to leave. That is far less political than what we have all witnessed yesterday.

I think the fact that those of us who were disappointed/unhappy/ angry at the rainbow laces stuff were sneered at and derided by the worst of the fanbase possibly adds a bit of fuel to the fire too.

The reports of the fashanu chant at Wednesday the other week also feels like we aren’t as tolerant as a fanbase and the scum amongst us are getting bolder maybe?

This will have blown over in the next few days.

Manchester United most senior figure, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, said the UK had been "colonised by immigrants", which is far far far worse and the story died within a few weeks.

Someone unaffiliated to the club holding a shirt will have no commercial ramifications beyond someone from the club having to apologise privately.

I’m not sure the two are comparable. He owns them and can’t force himself out and will see his “apology” as enough.

I think this will leave a mark for a while yet, simply because it’ll be referred back to by us, the media, opposition fans etc for a long time to come. Hopefully sporadically rather than constantly.

If the penny hasn't yet dropped for Ashton, it certainly will once the Birmingham fans pipe up with "Nigel Farage, he's one of your own".

The point was that it will harm our commercial operation, which it of course it will not.

Everyone just loves to sensationalise in the moment.

Next week everyone concerned with the ITFC will be onto Birmingham and everyone in Football will be talking about the Champo League/ PL and promotion race.

Given that your so clued in Mullet, give us a few more details.

Which sponsors are angry?
Where they happy not being at all mentioned in the statement?

If I was an unhappy sponsor I think the first think I'd want is an apology from the club.
