If he stays... is that genuinely it for some of you. 12:52 - Mar 27 with 6570 viewswaveneyblue

Geniune question.

You know/assume where I sit, but if he remains in position, are some of you going to stop supporting the club.

No wind up, just curious.

I wouldn't stop supporting the club, and neither would the club's fortunes mean any less to me if we had an owner who supported Reform (as odious as I find Reform). I would dislike the owner, and I would feel strongly that we should have a different owner. But that is very far from changing how I feel about ITFC, as opposed to its supposed custodians.

So to have a big-headed, wrong-headed, CEO (AND CHAIRMAN, grr....) who maintains the line that the club is apolitical, and who hasn't advanced any personal support for Reform is not going to alter my allegiance. I think he should go if the Athletic article is correct. But ITFC will survive Farage-gate, just as I hope the UK survives if the guy does ever become PM. Gulp.

before i shift to another club i'm going to want to read their manifesto carefully. their policy on water nationalisation is a biggie for me. and i'm still hoping to find one that will promise free broadband.

The club shouldn't hold any position on those things. Which is the point you so wilfully keep trying to ignore.

I support ITFC, not a CEO, owner, Manager or player. I was supporting them long before any of them pitched up and most were even born. My father and grandfather before me. I grew up with the club. I never ‘chose’ this club. It chose me.

I hope to live long after they’ve moved on which they will. They are transient. Players kiss the badge, managers thank the support etc etc, but they do the same at their next place of employment.

If anyone thinks the owners are here for the love of the club they’re in dreamland. Same with the CEO and staff. One or two who have long connections to the club are invested in it, the rest are not. It’s a job of work.

I doubt many of the owners knew where England was before rolling in. For the staff it’s no different to working in the real world. I never gave less than 100% for any employer. I was fully engaged. The second I walked out for the last time that was that. Cover of book closed, see ya later. It’s how it is.

The club is actually the supporters, which is why seeing so many want it to fail this season, including hounding of players, has annoyed me. One poster on here stated he hoped the club would never be promoted again. That means go out of business. How an any supporter could even think that is beyond me.

So this is a very long winded way of saying my love/attachment to the club comes first. Football is an interest and distraction. I hated seeing the club die under Evans and I don’t want to see it destroyed now.

No, in the same way that one bad manager or one bad owner doesn't stop me or other football supporters (of other clubs too) from following and being passionate about the club they've followed for years/decades.

Probably won't buy any merch till Ashton's gone & owners have issued decent statment incl apology, but not going to stop my membership that allows audio commentaries etc (am unable to get to games these days).

Would be interesting if there's a noticeable drop in attendance at our next home game, perhaps that would help the owners take more notice/action. I think players & staff might see such a drop as a positive rather than negative thing, given their reported anger & upset with how things have gone so far.

Not done with the club. That will never happen. I seriously tried to stop supporting Town at the end of Lambert's time but couldn't manage it.

However, I will not be giving them any of my money for the time being.

Fair response, only you can decide whats right for you if he stays.

I appreciate I was on the wind up last night, some just invite it too much, but at the end of the day, I understand that its down to personal opinion what effect (if any) it has on individuals.

Let’s be real, no one’s going to stop supporting their football club over it. This can be flooded with downvotes, but they just won’t.

It sucks that football has that hold / power over us, and that Ashton et al can effectively just tough this one out, if they choose to, but that’s the reality.

Could it be a slippery slope towards some staying away though, supporting more passively? Absolutely. Just look at your Blackburns etc.

This is what I'm expecting. The connection with the club has been so strong in recent years, but I expect that for some it will weaken it, like during the Evans era.

Important to remember that "the club" is made up of many parts. The team. The manager. The senior management. The owners. One part of that has let us down irrecoverably, but I also don't want that to impact the innocent parties (as much as possible). It's a conundrum, and supporting the team more passively and more privately might be the most comfortable for many.

If he stays - it shows that, as a Club, we are not interested in living our values.

We 'say one thing but do another'. In essence, success at all/any costs.

That's not the Ipswich I know and it would undo all (in my opinion) of the work that the Club has done to rebuild it's links with fans and the wider community.

I thought, foolishly maybe, we were better.

I'm going to deliberate more before making a decision but that is the first time in 50+ years as a Town fan that I am even thinking of the possibility.

I feel very similar and at this time very conflicted as to how I feel or what to do. It is however the worst I have felt about the club in the past 47 years of supporting Town.

There may be some that do, but a lot won't

But they'll be some like myself who don't go to the games, so I don't have that decision to make

But i've withdrawn my subscription to town tv until I see something from the club itself that shows a sign of remorse about the whole thing.

I also won't be buying any town shits for a while when the clubs gifts them out for free.

Yep I think so, for this season at least unless there is further comment and then I’ll think about my renewal based on the actions of the club. I don’t expect most to understand as I truly didn’t believe there was anything that could stop be watching the club I travel 2 hours to support every Saturday and additionally it should be a very exciting end to the season.

ITFC is my passion and that will never ever change but this has caused one side of my family great anger and upset. I also don’t like being taken for a mug and lied to. I like to think I am a principled person with morals.

I sincerely hope we hear more from the club and some explanations / action that will appease the situation.

I personally think Ashtons position is untenable and he will leave between now and the summer.

Joking aside, fair enough - as I said, each to their own, I am curious - hence I asked the question

I can't help wondering to what extent this might affect our promotion chances in the lastf ew games.

Yes the players & staff are all professionals, & KM will be trying to keep them focussed on that & playing - but they're human too, and most of us have enough life experience to know that when you're angry & upset (as they reportedly are with what's happened) you don't function at your best in your usual tasks.

The true links are what the club actually does in the Community. A poster described it in action on here earlier in the week. A real example. Nothing undoes the great work done by an awful lot of people. If you have any doubts, watch them in the Fanzone or with the mascots on a match day.

The people are ‘better’ and they should not be tarred with alleged or real actions of a few individuals and their work should not be dismissed as ‘undone’ in my view.

But everyone is of course entitled to an opinion.

I genuinely don't know. I think it depends upon the question of whether or not the club is actually lending its corporate backing to Farage/Reform. If that's the case, then I can't in all honesty support that. Which sucks as I've been a supporter since 1975.

Whichever way, it's certainly had a negative impact on my personal relationship (YKWIM) with the club, a bit like finding out a beloved family member is a racist. You still love them but can't see them in the same way again.
