Who is the best opposition player you've ever seen at Portman Road? on 13:23 - Mar 29 by urbanpenguin
(fat) Ronaldo - though just not in the game he played at FPR
Cruyff, Best, Law, Greaves. Also Alan Ball for Arsenal at Portman Road sticks out as a particularly good performance. George Best in the second half of that league cup match. Cruyff was outdone by Roger Osborne. Denis Law and Jimmy Greaves were always a joy to watch.

Did he have some fantastic match against us once or something?
I would imagine there are a lot of top European footballers who have graced the turf in living memory who are missing from the list.
In all honesty I can't remember who I would describe as the best. It is rare that one opposing player stands out for me. I can recall Bryan Robson scoring in the first match I saw at Portman Road and I can recall that Di Baggio, Seedorf and Toldo played when I was there.
I voted Henry but in terms of best performance I remember Dumitrescu (and Klinsman to a lesser extent) tearing us to pieces for Spurs in an evening game. It's the only time I've seen the EADT give a player a match rating of 10.

My dad worked with the photographer for Ipswich (in those days it was a part-time role), and I still have large black and white photos he took of Law, Best and Charlton in one game I was at: all three former European Footballers of the Year.

Shearer for Blackburn. He tore us a new one. I think he got a brace and one was a Marcus Stewart-esque beaut on the volley/half volley from the edge of the area.

Statistically, it's got to be David Nugent.
I thought of him but he did little more than score goals. The fact that 90% of them were scored against us as well still hurts. Especially as it invariably went that our fans spent 80 minutes screaming abuse at him before he scored goals in the last 10 minutes to turn the match around and give it back to us large.
It also made me wonder, did the OP mean best player or the best performance in a particular match.
Tricky one that, as I go back to 1963 and I've seen some of the greats. One of those mentioned in the Pie Chart definitely gets in, Thierry Henry. Not sure about any of the rest, especially Perry Groves!!!!

Jamal Campbell-Ryce somewhat bizarrely got a standing ovation from the home supporters when playing for Rotherham. We won 4-3. An odd night.
Javier Zanetti oozed class for Inter Milan.
Absolutely, Javie Zanetti. I remember on one occasion he was pinned down in possession near his own corner flag but he left two Town players floundering as he pirouetted past them, before playing an inch perfect pass.
