| Mrs Davis has a baby Sunday on 09:40 - Apr 15 by darkhorse28 | Leif missing isn’t why we generally play like that and rely on moments of quality to get by. There are bigger issues. You don’t know any of the circumstances. So it’s a bold call. But assuming a normal pregnancy and birth, you’d have a point, we know Roy Keanes views. There’s 29 people wanting to signal their virtue. Who also don’t know the circumstances. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to ask him to take 12 hours away to play (potentially) so it’s not an unreasonable point…, most fathers go to work two days after a birth, some mothers do some work that soon too!! But you’d need context. Never stops the virtue mob though does it…, they’re better than you, and you’re evil, not because you are, but because it makes them feel good to hate, and get perceived social status. How low must their self esteem be. I’m sure McKenna and Leif and his Mrs probably made the right call, leave it to the player, it’s about managing relationships at the end of the day. And there’s less resilience these days socially, hence the number of downvotes from broken souls. Leifs from the North, get a feeling there’s reasons, and he’d have liked to play, but couldn’t. Pray for the 29 lost souls that need a hug. |
Yes, virtue is a terrible thing, isn't it ? Having values to try and live by, doing good things and wanting the best for the people around you, awful lot, aren't they ? And now you're at it, providing comfort to Wally and Frimmers so that they are not the only dicks on the thread...

Quite. Although Walls and Frimmers were coming from a genuinely well-meaning place in fairness to them, whereas Darkhorse is just unnecessarily nasty. Heaven forbid that people support each other, eh?

Well exactly, empty stadiums throughout the World where twenty two players hack each other to bits with kitchen implements and carpentry tools is what we need...

| Mrs Davis has a baby Sunday on 10:26 - Apr 15 with 729 views | HighgateBlue | I think it's about compassion, team spirit, modernity, and proportionality. He misses a game. It's not like he'll be given weeks off. And he's put in an awful lot of minutes this season. We have a really heavy schedule, so the opportunity to 'rest' him (at least in footballing terms - not sure whether he'll be getting sleep!) is not entirely unwelcome. We were poor across the board last night. I don't think that that was what made the difference. Having a baby is, when all goes well, a joyous thing. Clubs rightly give players and coaches time off when something tragic happens. I think that compassion is equally justified in cases where something momentous but positive has happened. If it had been the Cup Final, maybe there would have been a different collective decision, who knows. But I'd rather have a happy Leif and a collective group wishing him well and giving him a bit of bantz about it, rather than forcing him to play at Pompey in the rain and him being miserable about it for the foreseeable. | | | |

It's their first child. The entire experience will be shattering (as well as exhilarating) for both of them, and they won't have any prior experience to call upon. It is entirely reasonable to expect Leif and his partner to take more than two days away from work to try to adjust to a life-changing experience, "normal pregnancy and birth" or otherwise. As for the second half of your unwelcome post, the only bit with which I would agree is "I’m sure McKenna and Leif and his Mrs probably made the right call, leave it to the player..." The rest of it is complete horseshit.

And at least Wally has posted with a sense of humour and a bit of self-awareness. Name-calling from one or two others isn’t a good look though tbf - hardly the best way to make a point about valuing opting for the right choices in life …

As usual, you have an elephant sized weird take on this. I can’t speak for others but I didn’t downvote the OP to show my virtue but instead I downvoted it for the insinuation that a new father should choose to spend time with their partner and new baby rather than being at work. I suppose to have this view, one needs some degree of empathy which you seem to lack. The fact that you choose not to recognise most people’s sane views but instead go off on a tangent says a lot about you - you come across as quite a bitter person. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Nah Wally can Foxtrot Oscar with his dickish thoughts. MrsN could have done with me home after the twins were born, but it wasn’t possible. She had no choice but to do everything. I was lucky to be home for No4 last July. Leif shouldn’t be questioned for dedication to his family, Wally is wrong. “Critical football match” Wally called it. Critical family support required is far more important.

| Mrs Davis has a baby Sunday on 12:23 - Apr 15 with 610 views | Exiled2Surrey | To me the bigger issue would be the preparation for the game - KM probably wanted the team to play last night to have plenty of time to hone their connections (not very successfully) - so the time required to play that game was both last night and the days training before. I suspect LD was a bit tied up on Sunday / Monday so he would have found it difficult to be available for those sessions, so KM would have wanted the maximum time available to get Greaves comfortable with the position and the others around him - and I would imagine that would have been at least as important in the decision making here as availability for the match itself. I also think it had a substantial impact on how the team was playing - with the best will in the world, Greaves does not bomb down the left in the same way as LD does, and you could tell by Greaves' indecision when taking throw ins, which took FOREVER, that the team were just not knitting together down that side. It looked to me that there were a number of mistakes in the selection, but who knows what the grand plan is for the remaining games (and there will be a grand plan), and to be honest we can really only judge when the final game is played (hopefully in early May) | | | |

His call was wrong, Leif had his priorities right, we are obviously agreed on that. W showed some self-awareness and acknowledged he might have got it wrong. Petty insults & name-calling aren’t the best educational delivery methods if you want the message to sink in.

No need for anyone to take offence. Its been said all is fine with mother and child so you just wondered as did I why he didnt play game and then return to new father duties after. Many players have played around the birth of a child.

Because he didn't have to. He could stay away until the 26th if he wanted to and we couldn't do a thing to stop him either. Giving birth is not simple, births can be traumatic. If Leif's partner gave birth via caesarian section, then she can't lift any thing heavier than the baby for 2 weeks, and can't drive for 6 weeks. If there is no one from her immediate family is available what is he supposed to do? "Reet, I'm off to Pomey luv. I'll be back in two days. I've left you a cheese toastie on the side and there's a lasagna in the fridge, if you have any problems with your wound or you start to haemorrhage, I've left your phone on the arm of the sofa, call 111. Alreet? I see t'he" You're coming across as a proper turd again. My mrs had a haemorrhage 3 days after giving birth, almost died from blood loss followed by an infection, and my daughter recently needed a 'category one' emergency caesarian after baby was in distress. Both were written up after birth as, "both doing well" We don't 'own' Leif as supporters, if anything, his missus does.

No one has said he had to. No one has even come close to saying they own him. Not sure why youre throwing that in. All we had was he had a child. Thats it. So again based on other players playing close to a birth its absolutely fine to wonder why he didnt. Of course there could be reasons behind it too. But not something for people to get offended by. No need to advise births arent simple. My sons wasn't and there was a time I didnt think my wife was gonna make it. I dont overly care tbh. I wws following this up more in defence of wally as people again jumping on something they dont like and rather than just ignore it or disagree politely they throw in insults for someone who wasnt even being offensive. Just wish this place could have respectful counter posts.
