| Where do we think Christian Walton stands 17:31 - May 3 with 2195 views | GeoffSentence | in the Ipswich pankeeperon? Goalkeeper is one position where we have not really had anyone who could be considered truly exceptional. We have had some decent ones , Cooper, Wright, Bailey and Forrest stand out I'd say. Would Walton fit in in that company? | |

I would argue that Bailey was exceptional. Surprised no mention of Richard Wright.

They are not exceptional in the way that players like Muhren, Beattie, Wark or Mariner were. Those were players who were all amongst the best in their position at the time. None of our goalies have truly been that good.

| Where do we think Christian Walton stands on 18:32 - May 3 with 1451 views | Axeldalai_lama | Is Hladky seen as one of the best? Palmer technically has played twice the amount of top flight games as Walton. Having said all that, he's had a great season and has literally kicked on a fair bit. I think he'd need a season of top flight at least to be considered anywhere near the others. | | | |
| Where do we think Christian Walton stands on 18:36 - May 3 with 1421 views | WolfieAtTheBack | If he starts in the PL and has Haaland and what have you at him for 90 mins whilst trying to pass out from the back we are going to have a terrible old time and get walloped week in week out again. He doesn't have the passing range. Sorry Christian, you did a bloody good job this season mind. | | | |

He has been very good this season. I’d hope we learn from the Muric ‘mistake’ and allow him to continue as No.1. He’s earned it.

I must be in the minority but I never feel confident with Walton between the sticks. Time and time again he palms a shot straight back into the danger zone where a better keeper would put it away from danger, he’s often hesitant claiming crosses and he’s not really as good on the ball as we want our keeper to be either. He’s had some good games too and made some big saves at times this season but he’s nowhere near premier league standard and I’d be stunned (and pretty annoyed) if we didn’t upgrade there. It’s as important as signing a striker for me this summer

Yep I like him he is a solid keeper. Prem is a bridge too far, he puts the ball back in the danger area so many times. [Post edited 3 May 20:47]

Yet I see what Geoff means if you look at it like this: Compile a list of Town all-time greats such as Crawford, Phillips, Elsworthy, Viljoen, Beattie, Muhren, Thijssen, Hunter, Mills, Osman, Butcher - and quite a few more - and you get through a good few names before most long-standing fans would insert the name of a goalkeeper.

For me hes similar to taylor in that our poor recruitment meant they ended up being important cogs in the machine this season For me. We need walton to become our number 2. Palmer to be sold.

He hasnt. We thank him for being better than Palmer. And hes a good number 2. But the amount of times he parries the ball down the middle of his own box causes us so many problems. Even yesterday he parried a shot straight down in front of him. Its tho little extras that make a big difference. Esp in the prem.

16 clean sheets. One behind Rushworth at Coventry. He’s been very good.

No way. Bart couldn't kick but as a shot stopper they were on different planets. Bart was basically the difference between us going down or staying up. 3x POTS was it ?

Doesnt make him a prem keeper tho. I 100% would have him as number 2. But I dont think those parries would get him out of jail in the prem.
