I know we need to avoid just signing championship players otherwise you just end up back in the championship but there are some good players in the top 6.

Hackney (Middlesbrough)
Conway (Middlesbrough)
Whittaker (Middlesbrough)

Obviously we aren't going to get any of the players from the team that wins the playoffs but wouldn't mind 2 or 3 of the above.
Targett a slightly odd one but would give much needed experience without going for a 35 year old retiring full back. Watched him a few times this year and he has looked solid and played like a leader on the pitch which is obviously essential in the prem.
Any others? Or is the consensus we should be applying a different strategy to last time?

As good a list that is, isn’t this what we did last time out and failed. Suspect we won’t take any of them but if I was pushed on one it would be Hackney who didn’t fancy it before in all honesty. Can’t see us going down this route again and rightly so. |  |

Hackney is the only player who would really excite me but even if Boro go up he is going to have almost the whole premier league after him I think so cant see that being likely.
Other than him I think Crama at Millwall has the potential to be a handy player at that level. |  |

I quite like the idea of Harwood Bellis but I'm not sure if he would be suitable for the LCB role and I think we have enough cover otherwise.
It would be fun to have both Azaz and Azeez in the squad, if only for the confusion it would cause.
If Targett is happy to play second fiddle to Davis then that wouldn't be a bad option either. Prem experience, probably a different profile to Davis that would be useful in certain games. | | | |

Larins career to date has been pretty underwhelming, he's has a purple patch this past 6 months but that's more going against the grain so far in his career.
He's also 31, no chance we go for him.
I'd only really take Hackney if I'm honest, and that'll be tough as bigger clubs are showing interest. |  |

I think Crama (millwall) would fit the KM system exceptionally well. Played all 46 games this season, 23 at Centre Back, 25 at Right Back.
6ft 3, can run, can pass, can head it. He would be exceptional.
The other one is Aidan Morris from Boro. Hackney is their creator but it's Morris that truly makes them tick. Played 40/ 46 games and he's unbelievably solid. You would question if he had the physicality to step up but my word does he have the technical and positional skills to compete with Azor.

Yep Crama looks perfect depending on 1 v 1 defending and pace, not seen enough to say [Post edited 5 May 10:57]

I'm not sure, KM has been very consistent in terms of going back in for certain types of players that he likes and it was clear how much he liked Hackney. Didn't pivot to others until Cajuste signed on 7th August and then Nunez at the end of the month.

Yeah it's ludicrous to say none. While I take the point that the championship super team approach didn't work out last time, there are plenty of players that have made the step up.

I would imagine we would go for Azeez and Hackney based on our history of targeting players across multiple windows.
I would be amazed if we sign any players from outside the Premier League in this country who are in the starting XI on the first day of next season. Need to be looking at what Leeds and Sunderland did. Target players who have been playing European football in Portugal, Turkey, France etc who are desperate for a shot at the Premier League. | | | |

I think with the way the league is now those signings work more when they are signed by more experienced and seasoned Premier League teams. Semenyo is a great example, signed by Bournemouth and gradually integrated across a couple of seasons. Same applies to Alex Scott.
If you aren't asking these guys to come in and be the main men straight away its massively beneficial for their development. | |

The truth is there are various pools of players and we should be looking at all of them:
- best players from the Championship
- experienced PL players
- high potential PL loanees
- overseas market
- etc etc
Each come with their own potential upsides and downsides. I'd argue that our real failure two years ago was in the "experienced PL players" bracket. O'Shea was a success (albeit marginal in 24/25) but beyond that there was only Phillips, Godfrey and Johnson who you'd really describe as PL experienced and none of them really worked out, even if Johnson has been good this season. | | | |

Azaz, Azeez, Azon, Azor. Cornered the market in Az's :) I would have gone for Azaz before the start of the season just finished. Of course we didn't and off he went to the Saints. Not interested in another pile of Championship players, it doesn't work, as we know. |  | | |
