talkSPORT Ashton Interview - Today on 15:03 - May 5 by victorysquad
Thought the McKenna noise might be a lot quieter this time round based on his new Contract and performance in prem last time round.
Also thought Ashtons response would be more certain he would keep him.
Does not sound like a done deal, i do hope a decision is made early if he goes and without the fanfare
I imagine he's less than impressed with Ashton behaviour and performance of late, including attempting to deflect transfer blame McKenna's way in January.

A great politicians answer to the first question on McKenna but then what can he say? Nobody knows what the future holds so can’t sway one way or the other yet.

There were some discussions the other day on here around some of the challenges that KM has said about this season.
No doubt in my mind that our approach to transfers last summer and in January proved a sticking point with KM and Ashton. It didn't play out well and was probably the first time, openly anyway, that there was some discourse there.
My sense (and there isn't really any evidence) is that things are not quite as good between them as they once were.
How that now plays out will be interesting. My take is that Ashton and his approach of late may have some bearing on what KM does next and not in a positive way.

I thought it was interesting that he is looking forward to some time off. In the past he has said things like I celebrate today and start thinking about the prem tomorrow. So that a change. If you can read something into it I'm not sure?

Gonna be a long ol summer, that’s for sure. KM speculation plus transfer speculation plus a likely rubbish World Cup. Roll on late August.

The "Ashton In" mob may play a role in us losing McKenna.

Two years ago after promotion there was a momumental amount of work to be done to prepare for the Premier League. Last season we suffered from a shorter summer as the Prem finishes later and the Championship starts earlier.
I think it's important that both he and Kieran get some proper time off over the next few weeks from a wellbeing perspective if nothing else.

Yep, he has since then made a monumental tool of himself dragging KM along with him at the most critical phase of the season, but he's a number of the more suspect profiles on TWTD's hero, so we're meant to be less boring or something to that effect lol. Getting rid of Ashton will only improve our chances of keeping KMac longer, only the weirdos don't understand that.

Really? I feel like McKenna is as invested as he has ever been here from all I've seen and heard. He said after the game we are in a far better position in all aspects than we were last time we went up. Not sure it is really helpful for anyone to be generating a narrative that something is off based on no evidence whatsoever.

I hope you are right.
I think it's more the undercurrent this season - their relationship feels a tad more strained. I point to the Jan transfer situation as some evidence.
I'm not trying to put a narrative out there just sharing my thoughts really.

At the parade yesterday he made a point of how much he loves the club and county of Suffolk. I think we get one more season from him at least

My worry is this:
If we do lose KM for these reasons, could it impact our ability to get in the best possible replacement?
No doubt managers will talk to each other, and it's not beyond the realms of reason that a prospective candidate could pick up the phone to KM in order to ask his candid opinion.

Yep. I'm actually far less worried about him leaving than I was in 2024. Could still happen, obviously, but I have a hunch he feels he has a point to prove, plus I'm not sure what other Premier league jobs are going to be up for grabs. Palace is the obvious one, but I'm sure we would have heard more rumours if that was a goer.

This really has to stop from the Aston out mob trying to start an issue when one doesn’t exist. The owners don’t care , those in the football world and media don’t care so stop trying to bring the mood and the club down. Everyone at the club is absolute fine.
Stop being so boring please.

Yep, seems onboard but you have no idea what’s around the corner is the message, at present there is no noise around Kmac compared to this time in 2024. But we are only ever one sacking away from a ton of speculation

Well Martin O’Neill will be leaving Celtic soon, so that’ll crop up again. As will Palace, and potentially Newcastle depending on what happens with Eddie Howe.
Do feel more confident this time around that he won’t go though, hopefully, as others have pointed out that we’re far better equipped this time around and feels a point to prove before making a bigger step in future.

He won't go to Celtic. Newcastle will want a 'name'.
