| Chuba Signs ! on 18:35 - May 5 by Churchman | I don’t remember a chorus of objection when he signed. Please point me to all the ‘disastrous deal’ posts that must have been made by yourself and all the others at the time and I’ll stand corrected. When he signed I thought he’d be a real asset, the get out being that if we failed we could say goodbye. It’s not worked out that way. So what? The gift of hindsight we all have, the gift of foresight is presumably with all those people who at the time said it was a stupid signing. I get that every angle must be taken to beat up the CEO and try to divide the club and the fanbase. I know, it’s all part of influencing; taking part, but if you want to truly be part of the pitchfork and torches brigade, it’s probably best to stick to wrong decisions at the time, like Cajuste, not ones that turned out poorly. And it could be argued that even Cajuste was worth the arrangement and Kipre certainly was. Not every deal works out. Not for anyone. That’s how it is. This one isn’t great. He’s been disappointing, but the overall risk to the club was minimal. |
No objection to signing him on loan, but as soon as I see 3-year-deal for £7m on x appearances I'm backing out, or doing a Cajuste and not getting him to the threshold when it's clear it's not working.

Yep. No one learns! Jaden, Clarke, MacAteer all written off. I like Chuba. Quick feet. KM doesn't give up on players easily.

McKenna realised Akpom, Walle & Cajuste were contributing so little that they had next to no game time on the run-in.

€5m per year. So probably right the first time.

Whilst I would say that is fair in regards to the other two, I think it is very harsh on Egeli. It is generally felt that he played a lot more than was originally intended and I would imagine McKenna felt there wasn't any need to put more pressure on his shoulders when Burns was fit and McAteer was playing well. We were never going to add a third right sided attacker to a match day squad so the alternative was to rotate who was left out between 2 or all 3 of them. I would say McKenna got it spot on without that being any comment on Egeli's performances at all.

Agree with you largely, but Egeli patently isn't a wide right player. I doubt we had paid £17m for someone who wasn't ready to play. Yes, he wasn't hopeless & may eventually become a very good player, but he often wasn't even getting in the squad during the climax to the season.
