| Surely it's worth at least having a look at Aro Muric in pre-season on 18:58 - May 13 with 1846 views | _CliveBaker_ | Its a weird position we're in of (presumably) wanting to sign a better keeper, while also looking to sell a keeper, in his prime, who is wanted by Valencia and Juventus and objectively speaking better than anything else we've got. If he wasn't already ours and came in from this season at Sassulolo we would probably be excited to have signed our Premier League ready keeper. That said, he was costly last time and cut the figure of a guy who didn't really want to be here. Had some good performances, and the good bits were very good, but I don't think I ever saw him smile and was certainly prone to a complete howler. Get him gone to the highest bidder and spend the money on a replacement. | | | |

Hes clearly a good keeper and we have become more pragmatic about when we play out from the back. Surely our brilliant manager could find a way to get him back in the team doing what he does best without some of the kamikazi stuff we encouraged last time. Dint forget we won that game at Spurs largely because of him! [Post edited 13 May 19:00]

A perverse position when you put it like that. Nuts really on the face of it if you didn’t see some of his howlers for us. Wanting to get rid of a keeper wanted by CL clubs. It would be nice to be in that position for all positions.

“Save ourselves a huge wedge”? Laughable, more likely to cost us £millions in the shape of more howlers by him costing us dropped points which could mean the difference between relegation again and staying up. The very definition of a high risk false economy that we do not need to gamble on.

Agree. With our finest, the first hint of his name on the team sheet and they’d start, let alone a mistake. It’s far better for him and us that we let him go, even if he is our best keeper and we take a loss.

I think what is unfair for Muric is that when he played, we were still trying to play the 23/24 way of bringing the ball out of defence to Morsy, at prem level it just was not on. IMO when Palmer came in, town begun to go longer more, there was a lot less keeper to CM balls going on and palmer was allowed to simply be a keeper. We missed Muric in our set pieces the remainder of the season, he was excellent with those. Yes he messed up a couple of times rushing out, but i've seen Walton do that, Palmer do it, and also both latter named keepers have their own catalogues of flaps and mistakes, waltons been incredibly lucky the past month with the number of times he's palmed the ball down the middle of the goal. People were very keen to defend Hirst who at times this season absolutely stank the place out, even by his own admission, yet Muric was/is immediately seen to be a player who deserves to be thrown out the club because he had a poor half a season

Worth remembering that Palmer was millimetres away from getting sent off on his debut for rushing out. Fine margins

The irony of it, is no keeper is going to look great in a newly promoted side, not in the Premier League at any rate, not unless the rest of the side do a 2000/01 level performance.

First vague error or imperfection and they will be all over it. He was far less bad in the prem than some made out, but once you pick apart every tiny moment, looking for issues, his confidence, and fans' confidence in him, is done.

My friends thought the same, and I sensed the defence did too. Maybe he was just unlucky but I don't think we could afford to take the risk. [Post edited 13 May 20:02]

This is my opinion too, in the first half of the season ok he made mistakes but he also earned us a good chunk of the points we had gained up to the Chelsea game which had kept us competitive. He was a new keeper trying to fit in to a side trying to play the same way they did in the Championship. With a small amout of good fortune in those first 5 months we could have had many more points. I just think its madness we have apparently ditched a high level keeper without giving him an opportunity to redeem himself, and when i say we i mean us supporting the team. KM was let down very badly at Colchester that night by 'our' support!

Agree with most of this Our form with Muric was also better than without it. He was unbelievable at claiming the ball in the air and given how many goals are scored from set pieces in the prem these days, that's exactly the sort of keeper we could do with Though as others have said it's probably too difficult for him to come back now gand it's probably best for all parties of we moved him on. If only there was a keeper like Muric available at his price who didn't make a few howlers for us in the past!

Jesus Christ, we're ITFC not Galatasarsy, it's hardly a bear pit most weeks, if the guy couldn't handle some tutting and the odd FFS after throwing in a couple of howlers against bottom of the league Southampton then there is an issue. He was pants for us, not because of the toxic fans, but because he didn't perform well for us in general, apart from Brighton away where he had a stormer.

Someone doesn't understand the significance of confidence in sport. And is pretending our support is more supportive than it really is.

From my recollection (and I was at every game), he didn't get any noticeable crowd criticism before Christmas. He features on this list despite only playing 28 Premier League games and his record of an error every four games is far worse than anyone else on the list. https://www.statmuse.com/fc/as He just wasn't good enough, and as I said before I don't think we can take the risk. Certainly McKenna lost confidence in him, hence the purchase and playing of Palmer. [Post edited 13 May 20:31]

Not at all. In fact the opposite, he'd lost the confidence of his teammates and clearly the management hence the panic buy of Palmer from our back up club West Brom. Any supporters who boo our players are idiots but they are a minority and there are far more toxic or hostile places to play than Portman Road.

You do have some very strange takes on things. I dont think it was playing out from the back, he just kept being a bit crap. The last goal at Brentford was particularly special if I recall it correctly. There was zero faith in him by the end, manager, players and fans. Probably a bit too harsh on him, but he isnt coming back from this. [Post edited 13 May 20:35]

The panic buy of Palmer was because Walton picked up an injury just before the window closed, one that kept him out for 6 weeks. We needed cover, and it was fortunate we did since Muric picked up an injury before Walton was back, and Muric’s injury kept him out for the rest of the season.

I was at plenty of the games cheers. I just don't agree that some numpty calling him a bad name made him a bad keeper for us, he wasn't very good us for so a few idiots called him nasty names, there is a clear difference. Fair play he has done well in Italy but other than Brighton away he didn't have a great time in a Town shirt.

he was actually pretty good. Just after one or two high profile errors, every little issue was highlighted and things were descriebd as keeper faults which really werent.
