Right now Matusiwa is our only central midfielder who might cut it in the premier league. If we're serious about staying up we need to sign at least two more, I wouldn't be disappointed if Downes was one of them. He's certainly an upgrade on Jack Taylor (no disrespect to Taylor, he gives everything).

Nope. Rather have Tanaka. Flynn doesn't want to come back here, that's obvious.

Absolutely this. West Ham is his club. Perhaps he can go back to his beloved ‘ammers.
| Back in for Flynniesta Zidownes? on 20:53 - May 19 with 1056 views | ITFC_Essex | The ideal time to come back was 24/25 during a relegation fight, he could have got stuck in and made himself a bit of a hero here again, after him making a stink a couple of times wanting out of the club. He's turned us down several times to come back, so I think he's made his bed now. He can play in the Premier League, but is he at that level, really? He could find his way back to West Ham, the club he really loves, anyway. I hope he does, he didn't do badly there and didn't get a fair shake at it last time. | |

I like Tanaka too, just worried he might be a little " lightweight ", though undoubtedly talented.

Despite the long goodbye from ourselves I would question his temperament on the pitch. It will be tough enough next season without players seeing red....

A few points; peak age, knows the club, two seasons of premier league experience, very athletic and mobile (which was exactly what we lacked last time). We're going to need another defensive midfielder. Downes doesn't particularly excite me, but at risk of being pessimistic, I'm not convinced we are going to attract better. I'll be happy to be wrong.

Does the simple things better than and I've seen. He's a confidence player too. The west ham experience shouldn't be used to judge him.

He ‘knew’ the club. The club since he left, he has no idea of.

Certainly seems underrated, people talk about him like he's some kind of talentless clogger, but that's not the player I see. I seriously worry about Matusiwa's lack of mobility relative to the standard in the premier league. I hope I'm wrong, but I wonder if he's about to be found out like Morsy was.

What's your point? The bit that is relevant is that he would in all likelihood be able to settle in quickly, feel at home and be in the best position to hit the ground running.

He didn’t feel at home last time. Couldn’t get away quick enough. He been approached to return previously and wasn’t interested. This club was just a starting point for his career, which is fair enough. But I think he’s made it perfectly clear he doesn’t want to come back here so why people hanker after him is beyond me. No, he is not a talentless clogger. He is though quite limited and has a short fuse. He is also injury prone. I’ve not seen him too many times for Southampton recently, but when I have he’s been anonymous. Ok, he’s not a flashy player, but there’s nothing that particularly impresses and he’s not as good a player as I thought he might be when he first broke into our team all those years ago now. An absolute no from me. West Ham deemed him not good enough for the Premier League. For once they weren’t wrong.
