Delap on his own wasn't enough last time. We need a player of his quality and I don't see any reason to think Parrott is any better. I don't think we should be looking at signing strikers of a lower level. If that's all we can get we will continue to struggle in that department. |
Delap was pretty much perfect for us last time. Its the whole squad that wasn't strong enough.
And Parrot has scored 67 goals in 3 top flight seasons in the dutch league. I'm not quite sure what more we could expect then those two. It would be brilliant. Obviously with improvements to the rest of the squad.

I think the logic is that he clearly improves the team we currently have very significantly. I am not sure what people are expecting. I guess if we can get Foden and Bowen over the line, we shouldn't be going for players like Delap. |

I think you misunderstand my comment "strikers of a lower level". I mean of a lower level than those two. If the best we can get isn't as good as either of them, we will struggle is what I am saying. They are the level of striker we need to be getting. |  |

Signing a genuine 10 is nearly as big (if not bigger) priority than a striker to lead the line. We’ve not had a consistent performer in that position since Chappers in 23/24.
Smodz as a ‘second striker’ didnt work. Nunez has done alright but patchy, same with Mehmeti.
Need to invest some serious dollar in a creative 10 who can pull the strings and knock in a few goals |  | | |

I’ve despaired over some of our fans this season in how they have supported McKenna and the team in a season that ultimately delivered promotion.
Now we have fans that are against signing delap or don’t think he would be good enough based on the last season in a car crash Chelsea’s team.

Although I do believe Delap is better in a team who play more on the break. Against teams who sit deep his not so good needs to be able to run behind so I think he will fit as I believe a lot of sides will have more of the ball than we will. |
My issue with Delap last time was that as the season progressed he got less effective. Early on the fact he wasn't a team player was OK because he was scoring and causing trouble whenever he got the ball. By the end, he just ran until he lost it almost every time, and off the ball he became a thug. At Chelsea his thug tendencies seem to have grown more than his football ones, which is a shame.
He's obviously a talented player and we do need someone who can work on the break but he'll need to learn to be more of a team player if we are to do better than last time. | | | |

We're interested in Evan Ferguson again; McKenna is a big fan & he fits the centre forward profile for the team even better than Delap does, due to his link up play/teamwork.
He is currently on about half the wages of Delap & transfer fee would be somewhere around the £25m mark, so it is very doable. The issue for us would be the medical, especially on the ankle post operation; the psychological element of dealing with a young player like him seems like it would be right up McKenna's Street though. | |

Interesting, I don't think it would, why? Well I think he has a point to prove now, but also, it is clear he has not really developed at Chelsea which is the problem with being an in / out type of striker.
He will need to develop further to succeed, he is not an unknown quantity any more, but in terms of having the raw ingredients, I think he has a lot of them. | |

However, I do think it may be a difficult deal to do.
Chelsea will want a replacement in before they let go - which could push back late in the window. They will also probably like an increase on their purchase price, which I am not sure is justified.
Delap may not want to rejoin, and if he does, will he want another relegation release clause?
The release clause if requested is likely to be more than we pay for him, which again may be prohibitive in allowing a potential move.
Then you have Delap’s wages, which will be significantly higher than when he was last here. Will he accept a relegation clause for his wages? [Post edited 26 May 13:22]

Parrott doesn't have anywhere near the physical presence to be the 9, but his awareness, touch and finishing make him ideal for our goalscoring/pressing 10. | | | |
