Seen this doing the rounds in Twitter and has a lot of traction - 400k+ views which is exactly what the poster wants.
Makes me think thingy can’t be the first person this has happened to?
I’m torn on it… on a human level then it sounds like an honest mistake which the club could easily fix. On the other hand, rules are there for a reason and where does the line get drawn, as the window closed four weeks ago now!

I have heard of others who missed the deadline, although I don’t know what the outcome was and if the club have allowed them to buy or not.

Really tricky one. You don't want to be overly harsh on someone for an honest mistake but if you miss the renewal deadline by weeks then unless you've been in a coma that's probably the point at which the rules need to be stuck to otherwise there's no point having a deadline. If he missed it by a week that's a different kettle of fish and they should honour it. |  |

Thing is, a deadline is put in place, as its the final day that you can do something.
Theres lots of days before the deadline where you can do it.
If its a case of the club pressing a button then they should do it, however by them going public, they are probably less likely to, as it sets a precedent for other latecomers.

If it was me, I’d be kicking myself and not highlighting my disorganisation and forgetfulness on social media!
It would be nice if the club could accommodate, although do we actually know that seats haven’t been reallocated even if new STs haven’t been issued? |  |

Mine rolls over automatically, I assume I am okay? I haven't had any communication from the club on it at all, whereas in years past it was letters, emails and the like, even though I was on auto-renewal? |  |

That’s pretty fair. Also also a precedent thing too. And like a few others have said, if the chap now tweets something saying the club have sorted it, you can guarantee the club will get calls the next day from a few others in the same boat saying “well you’ve done it for them….” | | | |

How has the deadline date compared to previous seasons? It feels like it was earlier this year.
On the basis of a one-off mistake that doesn't (at this time) have consequences for any other fans or the club, letting him renew would seem to be the decent PR thing to do.
It'll be interesting to see whether the club values the PR or the extra income from a spare seat more. It'll also be interesting to see how this (and the other natural wastage that there will no doubt have been) will be reflected in tickets being offered to the waiting list (or not). | |

It’s a tough one but I’m with the you have to draw a line somewhere.
It’s pretty much inconceivable that any season ticket holder doesn’t know that they have to do something at the end of the year and knowing there are lots of people who want a seat, look after what you have if it means that much.
I can quite imagine my son taking on his ticket when he finishes Uni and forgetting to do renew but that’s his fault and whilst I’d be disappointed to lose him beside me, there’s a lesson to be learnt.
Can’t stand people who stomp their feet to get what they want.
Of course….there could be very good reasons, such as illness or similar which rightly so, you’d expect the club to help with exceptional circumstances.
We’re not entitled to anything. You pay, you get your service. People can state loyalty etc but when things aren’t great plenty of people step away from the games so is that fair on the club then? Weak argument I guess but rules keep order. |  | | |

I’d draw the line at the point where the seat has been reallocated and the new owner told, so if I was in ticket office I’d change it if I could. I’m not a fan of rules for rules’ sake if it’s possible to help someone out if they’ve made a mistake. I still wouldn’t take to social media though, as the club aren’t in the wrong. If they’d allocate the seat to someone else (or invited in a racist chancer for a free promo session  ) then sure, they would deserve both barrels if they didn’t sort it. | |

The thing is, as soon as you make an exception, how far do you take it? 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, a month late? As soon as you ‘bend the rules’ a little, you then open the floodgates for people to expect it in more and more extreme cases.
I’ve made mistakes like this before, and missed out on something, but I don’t go around blaming someone else for my oversight. I chastise myself.
I feel sorry for them losing their ST, but taking it to the media/social media is unnecessary. The club hasn’t done anything wrong here. [Post edited 28 May 22:23]

I think the club should have an appeal process and policy with guidelines for relevant staff to follow to ensure consistent and reasonable decisions when considering mitigation and supporting evidence that the customer has put forward. Just "I forgot" would be instant rejection. | |
