| What's your club v country balance index? 07:59 - Jun 6 with 3918 views | NthQldITFC | If we said that: 10 represents someone who supports a club, but has absolutely no interest in a national team whatsoever, and... 0 represents someone who supports a national team, but has absolutely no club allegiance whatsoever... ...where do you stand on that scale? I'm probably an 9 I guess, but have been a 10 in the past. edit: didn't even have the correct answer to my own question at first! [Post edited 6 Jun 8:27]

If I’m going to nail my colours to the mast 5.01

| What's your club v country balance index? on 08:10 - Jun 6 with 2187 views | MattinLondon | This is a really hard one for me as during big tournaments I absolutely always get carried away and love them. The WC is a special thing for me - I also love watching the smaller nations play on the telly as well. During these tournaments my ‘index’ swings heavily towards England but as soon as the Euros or WC is over (not necessarily when England are knocked out) the index thing swings back heavily towards Ipswich. I’ve just realised that I haven’t answered your question. Apologies. Edit. On balance as a 52 week thing I’ll say 7. [Post edited 6 Jun 8:22]

Will moderately often watch England in a major tournament (especially socially, with friends), but not usually bother about qualifiers or friendlies. Unlikely to follow news stories or punditry on team selection, managers and related stuff.

And as bad as we think the PL is, I’ve long wanted the big nations to break away from FIFA - it’s just the most corrupt, morally bankrupt organisation. It would collapse without the big teams.

Yes, exactly this. And I'll be an Iraq or Scotland 'supporter' almost(?) as much as an England supporter over the next couple of weeks!

| What's your club v country balance index? on 09:49 - Jun 6 with 1819 views | Mark | I would say I am a 9 now, but used to be far more balanced in the time of Italia 90 say, when Bobby Robson was England manager. It felt like there were more characters back then, and we didn't have saturation football on TV so it felt more special. Nowadays I find it a chore to watch England matches, aside from the World Cup and Euros, and I couldn't name that many of the squad now. | | | |

yes, very much depends on the make up of the england team/manager and where the tournament is. easier to get behind a decent man like southgate than a mercenary like capello, difficult to get enthused in tournaments in repressive countries like qatar and the us, massively helps if there's an ipswich link (butcher, mills, robson, even dyer after he left us)

Yes, I supported England in 90. I wouldn’t say I do know though; I’ve drifted out to a 9-10. I’ll watch international games with interest, but don’t have any of that supporting vibe (nerves or other emotions around the match). The nature of England may also have something to do with that. You know where going to fly through qualifying and the fist round of tournaments, so there’s no jeopardy- it’s predictable and almost dull.

| What's your club v country balance index? on 10:04 - Jun 6 with 1779 views | WD19 | Probably about a 9, but I have been a 5-6 in the past. Ipswich views haven’t changed but England ties much stronger (perhaps unsurprisingly) in the Robson era and also the 1990s. I just can’t relate to england footballers anymore and it seems clear they have zero interest in relating to the fans who are just an inconvenience. Hopefully get back to a 7 this summer, but I doubt it. | | | |
| What's your club v country balance index? on 10:19 - Jun 6 with 1758 views | bluelagos | Have spent 40 years getting less and less interested in watching England. Four world cups, 2 Euros - was at Turin (90)and Wembley (96) for Gazza's tears and penalty defeats to Germany. Last England game was a friendly v Brazil that summed up perfectly for me how cr*p modern football has become - Wembley way a sea of selfie takers/instagrammers, arrival times on tickets, light shows, a prematch DJ knocking out some sh1te that the kids seemed to like and at full time the stadium was 1/3 full as the modern fan was more interested in beating the tube queues than staying to the end. Conversation from the guys in front 5 mins before half time: "Want some food Milo?" "Do they have pistachio nuts daddy?" Milo and Daddy left a good 15 mins before the end, such was their commitment to supporting their country. So for me I was probably a 7 Ipswich, 3 England. Now 10 Ipswich. Want England to win but no fcks given as/when we get knocked out tbh. | |

Yes, that would significantly change it for me. Have watched more RoI and Wales minor games than England in the last couple of years. Even recent former Town players might be enough to spark an interest. Someone like Delap, for instance.

Or even ex-Ipswich players. Dyer and Bent in recent times deserved more caps. Always been a big club bias when it comes to England, which is why we don't win anything. See Morgan Gibbs White being overlooked in favour of Madueke for this WC squad. I've never been as underwhelmed in lead up to a WC. By expanding to 48 teams, FIFA have diluted the drama. Group stage is pretty much a non-event. Top two qualify and most of the third placed teams too. Only minnows with zero chance anyway will be knocked-out. May as well only tune-in for the knock-out stage. Some of the best players in the world are born and raised English, yet refuse to play for us. Listen to Semenyo or Olise speak in interviews. Thick London accents both of them. Raised in West London. Chose to represent Ghana & France respectively. They'd be shoe-ins to our starting 11. I blame the racist element of England fans, who eg abused players when they missed pens in the Euro 2020 final. This is a major reason I don't think we'll win the WC this year. I used to be 6-7 out of 10 in favour of Ipswich, now more like 9/10. [Post edited 6 Jun 11:40]

| What's your club v country balance index? on 11:41 - Jun 6 with 1525 views | burnbudgiesburn | These questions are always weird because support of one is never to the detriment of the other. If England are playing QF, SF or knockout rounds right at that moment my support is a full on 0 and i'm fully invested. Outside of that, at times I don't even know who the players are or when games are on such has been my lack of interest in top flight football these days. I guess the question is which team has my constant support? Ipswich, Ipswich and then Ipswich and i'd give anyone a strange look if they thought any different. Ipswich losing a single league game can ruin the week, whereas i'm over a world cup exit the next day. | | | |
