I figured there would be some football to watch. Perhaps lots. So far I saw half of the Mexico game and was irritated by the awful excessive refereeing. But at least it was a game. Nothing last night after I got in.
Qatar v Swizterland today ... Not really of any interest at all.
Brazil Morocco- 11pm kick off. Too late to bother with. Scotland at 2am so no chance.

Makes me laugh whenever Scotland get to a tournament & there is a massive love in for their national anthem.

They know they aren't going to win the world cup. They are happy to take part and enjoy the tournament. And they wont trash the town when they get knocked out. And trust me, everybody up here is talking about the football team.

Two of my daughters are off to the pub in 15 minutes to watch the game. They are going to be sh1t faced before kick off at 2am.
The whole bloody street is festooned with Scotland flags and bunting. One neighbour even has a bloody great tifo attached to this house.

Yes a World Cup on the other side of the world throws up some strange KO times, what a shock, that’s what the WC is about, the novelty of it.
Qatar v Switzerland not really of an interest at all? Bah. It’s the World Cup, all the games are of an interest.
A live football game at 23:00 on a Saturday night? Yes please. Brazil one of the teams you have to watch at World Cup.
Scotland at 2am, come on the Scots I say, hope George Hirst gets some action.

I think the point is that with the expanded involvement there are a lot more lower quality games and the refereeing of the one match on at a reasonable time yesterday left a lot to be desired. I am sure previous tournaments have arranged kick offs so that there is the odd match on at a reasonable time in Europe. I may be remembering that wrong, though. At least England's matches aren't into the early hours (at least not in this phase anyway). |  |

Just a reminder that the World Cup is about so much more than watching a game on TV at a convenient time. It’s about people from all over the world coming together in a host nation (or three) and celebrating their national identity via a football tournament.

Germany kicks off tomorrow at 18.00 UK time. I have no idea what time that is PST. Why is it OK tomorrow but not today? It would seem reasonable at the weekend unless it is just a ridiculous time PST because it is Germany.
I guess it depends how much the tournament is meant to be enjoyed by fans around the globe or just by fans in one time zone. It just seems a little odd it can be done for that one match. As I say, they seem to have made the England ones fit in OK for this round (rather than being early hours kick offs like Scotland get tonight). I am sure there will end up being some early hours ones for England as they progress.

The most important thing is that the kick off times work in the host countries, not for tv schedules around the world.

Germany is playing in CST for a start! European audience has been kept well in mind for this tournament, especially the big nations. The lack of knowledge about basic time zones for a World Cup that was awarded tk the Americas is baffling. | |
