Corr watching this world cup seems hard 20:50 - Jun 13 with 5104 viewsFrimleyBlue

Feel's like a load of pres season international friendlies.

Might be one to watch the england games and the knock out stages for me.

I think the atmosphere doesn't help, so quiet

Yeah give it the large one. FFS someone is watching the World Cup so they’re clearly a nazi! To confirm you’re the tolerant one right? You’re embarrassing yourself.

In fact this message board isn’t far off embarrassing our entire fanbase at this point.

Nah, it will be over soon, and then back to club play, REAL play, not all-star teams. TBH, international soccer bores me (maybe because I'm American and we have no chance LOL).

You clearly have no idea who you are talking with.

I'm an American. One of the FEW who likes soccer (Alf Ramsey called it soccer, so will I).

A recent poll showed that a whole 22% of Americans had interest in the World Cup. (And that is at its peak - that number was never that high since 1994 and WILL go down once the Cup is won, as the US won't be hosting anymore, so who cares, just like after 1994). And we're hosting the blasted thing. And trust me, MANY of those are on the coasts.

I live in MAGA-land. DEEEEP in the center. And I GUARANTEE YOU, any bar I go to, from now until the end of time, won't be showing the World Cup.

So there will be no need for such protests round here. Because they don't give a.

Just as I to you.

It really hasn’t, every game outside the US has been within a goal and we’ve not seen a top 10 nation yet. Italia 90 group stage was basically the same if not worse.

I could watch a decent game at my local park potentially, worst start to a World Cup by far I mean Mexico v South Africa as an opener ? Switzerland v Qatar ? the new format kills the tension for me as the chances of progression are so high, coupled with a load of total guff teams

I preferred it when the holders played in the opening match, as they earned the right and it meant the first game was always of real interest.

I have no idea what games any of you are watching anymore. Criticisms for the World Cup changes are fair criticisms to have no matter if we agree or disagree on them, but this is just complaining for the sake of complaining, politics aside, this has been a very good start to a World Cup so far.

So far, a few international teams who people would consider rubbish (for some reason) have proven that they are tougher to beat than people first thought.

3 red cards in the first game, no matter the validity of one or two of them, that's quite a way to start the WC.
South Korea deserved their win against Czechia, that was a better game than I expected...
Canada - Bosnia was a great game,
USA - Paraguay was a great game,
The first half of the Brazil - Morocco game was extremely good, the second half saw Morocco nullify as much of the attacking threat of their opponents as they could.
Haiti - Scotland was a better game than the scoreline suggests, Haiti were genuinely unlucky not to get a draw out of that game, they had their chances. I didn't expect anything less from them.
Australia - Turkiye was an interesting game, a lot of chances, and a very good game for Patrick Beach, who started over Mathew Ryan. Australia are better than people think. The Turks are potentially on track to be one of the current underperformers of the tournament.

honestly the only game I've been bored by so far is Switzerland - Qatar, but that last minute equaliser was completely unexpected, the Swiss massively let themselves down with how complacent they were. It was about time the two-time back-to-back Asian Cup champions won their first point at the World Cup.

Honestly, the only 'guff' team so far has been Paraguay, they were a defensive shambles.

I like the chances of progression being high, though. Cause for more surprises in the tournament, it doesn't matter in the later stages as things progress as much as earlier in the tournament, at the end of the day teams need to beat what's in front of them.

Hmmm

- Qatar getting a result against credible European opposition?

- Come back win for S.Korea!

- Canada really open game with plenty of chances….

- Hosts smashing team that beat Argentina and Brazil in qualifying!

Every team outside of SA has scored in the first 5 games. You’re narrative is false if you look at the first few days of most recent world cups, this has probably been the best.

Not sure why ernie is downvoting this (unless it was something in there pre edit).

Whilst I haven't watched the matches, most World Cups have had cagey first round matches that were often boring draws as teams didn't want the pressure of losing their opening match. In that respect, there seems like this tournament has been more entertaining from the descriptions given.

Surely we are watching the premier football tournament in the world, you would expect to see top quality players ?

7 games in and only 1 that catches the imagination Brazilian v Maroc, otherwise it’s all deadwood Qatar, Switzerland, South Africa etc

If I watched Watford v Oxford in the championship it might have incident but it’s still Watford and Oxford, this is the equivalent.

It’s been diluted to within an inch of its life, there were always games which didn’t catch the imagination but 6 out of the first 7 ??

You're talking pure garbage though.

The last opener was Qatar v Ecuador. This weekend has seen much better football than the start of any World Cup I can remember. In the first few days of the last tournament it threw up these results.

Qatar 0 - 2 Ecuador
England 5 - 1 Iran
Mexico 0 - Poland 0
Morocco 0 - Croatia 0
Denmark 0 - 0 Tunisia
France 4 - Australia 1
