Ashton: “Giving someone their first managerial job in the PL is more difficult 11:32 - Jun 15 with 6419 viewsMatt_Netherlands

We’ll see about that.

No claiming def info, just heard a couple of names under discussion which very much fall into this bracket.

I mentioned this last week. I just can't see him shifting that far away from a structure/ style that has given him so much success.

Mark Ashton has almost exclusively hired young coaches with something to prove.. by Bellevue_Blue 11 Jun 8:05
Rob Edwards, Liam Rosenier, Gary O'Neill, Ange, Dyche ... They're not really Mark Ashton type appointments.

2005 - Hired Aidy Boothryd giving him his first job aged 34
2008 - Hired Brendan Rodgers giving him his first job aged 35
2016 - Hired Lee Johnson aged 35, from League 1 Barnsley giving him his first taste of Championship Football
2020 - Hired Lee Johnson's right hand man, Dean Holden giving him his first job in football aged 40
2021 - Hired Nigel Pearson to get them out of trouble. His only outlier.
2021 - Hired Kieran Mckenna giving him his first job aged 35

He clearly likes to have a younger profile of manager, someone who is a relative unknown, a tactician and a coach with something to prove.

I'd be amazed if our next manager was not a younger manager who is experiencing the Premier League for the first time. Maybe not as their first job, but first in the PL.

{Edited to include Brendan Rodgers}

The second he said "we're looking at all markets" I put a ton on BBM.

MA is just so obvious getting his excuses out before anyone questions him - very dishonest and manipulative man

It's true.

The main reason though is MA doesn't like having to deal with big personalities. It's ideal to get someone who feels grateful and that MA gave them the opportunity....it's the only way managers will put up with him for a season or two.

KK - no chance...way too experienced
Gerrard - thankfully no chance but he'd see through MA anyway

In this vein, i'm surprised the name Anthony Barry hasn't been thrown around more. He's very much in the 'young yet experienced coach yet to take on a managers job' bracket that Ashton favours. He's With England at the moment and has previously been at Bayern, Chelsea, Belgium national team etc.

Ashton seems to like trying to pick out the real brains behind certain operations, Like Mckenna at United, so would be surprised if Barry's not on the list.

Didn't Phil say in another thread that if he wasn't at the WC he thought he would be high up the list? Preumably that rules him out then.

He's been mentioned several times, but as has been pointed out - we really can't wait until the late July to get a manager in the building.

He’s one name I’d heard, but seems very unlikely given his current situation. Someone the club like though.

The other name is Cochrane but no need to be secretive on that one now that Phil has mentioned him in the Knutsen story. Been on the radar for a while.
