Doesn’t he have a bit of a history of blaming everyone else if things go wrong, throwing players under the bus and hurling toys from his pram?

Or am I misremembering?

Better to stay silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt

Arguably he's the best option from a very mediocre selection. Vast experience, tends to overachieve when backed suitably, and probably the option most likely to keep us up.

That said, he's doing a great job in Saudi, there would a huge buyout, and tax ramifications for him personally if he were to leave now. He is also quite a volatile personality and not necessarily one who thrives when the pressure is really on. He'd certainly challenge Ashton in a way that KMc didn't, but cultivating team togetherness and harmony when you're getting beaten frequently is not one of his strengths!

Would rather have the late Ted Rogers, whose odds are now "three to one"

Not sure about dusty bin though - a bit tinpot?

Nope, I’m with you on this. Always came across as a greetin’ faced welt when at Celtic.

Smarmy even?

I don't think this next appointment is going to be overly exciting. It will just need to be a steady pair of hands to keep us up.

I felt the same about Joe Royle and was totally wrong.

He is an experienced coach who understands what is required. He has worked with our CEO before and has had more success than not in his career. He might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but would be a strong appointment under the circumstances…..once you see past the teeth and the baggage.

I didn’t think of that. I thought at the time ‘Joe Royle? Oh noooo’. But Joe did much better than he’s given credit for, especially as the team was being flogged off from under him. Played some good football too.

Rodgers? Another oh no. But he or whoever else gets the job starts a clean slate from me.

He’d be an exceptional appointment on paper and is a very good man manager too. Whether he and Ashton could work together I’ve no idea, as Rodgers would want his own way (understandably given his experience). I can’t see how we could possibly do better with a proven coach, but I’ve not much of an idea about alternatives. If Pep fancied a go here I wouldn’t say no, for example!

He is marmite. Some of the Swansea fans thought he was a bit smarmy despite him having a phenomenal spell over here. Edit - but that shouldn’t be a consideration!

One of the qualifying criteria should be level of smarminess to gauge suitability of taking over from McKenna.

Rodgers would be an exceptionally good pick for us, I’m surprised he’s within our grasp tbh- out of the three favourites currently listed he’s far and away my personal favourite. Would be very happy with his appointment!

It will be Rodgers. ITK btw

True - although I think Morsy had other motivations to go there outside of just tax

If you’re suggesting he went to live in an Islamic country then I could believe that, aside from the fact he now lives in Bristol.

Morsy had business interests in the area- he’s not a particularly strict Muslim, apart from when it comes to his views on homosexuality, seemingly…

ah ok, fair enough, didn't know that.

Dread to think what he gave up in terms of tax coming back!

I won’t be crying myself to sleep over it- that being said, often relatively wealthy people have all kinds of loophole finding/rule-bending professionals, so I’m sure he was fine.
