I’d say poor passing and fannying about in midfield had more to do with that goal than the hydration break.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

Pleased the crowd are loudly booing them. Distorts the game completely, despite Matterface trying to suggest there's an upside with coaches talking to players.

By definition, the quarters aren't even as long as a five or six aside game.

Conversely, I hydrate during the 22 minute quarters and use the official hydration breaks for athletic activity I.e. going for a pee and fetching more hydration from the fridge/bar

Last night was first game I've seen this WC - and I hated the preplanned,advert filled 'hydration break'.

Ok, let the players have a drink when theres a natural break in play or similar, but this seems contrived to break the game into 1/4's. Such a typical American thing. And to have adverts - yuk. Almost enough for me to turn it off.

I do wonder if we are slowly building up to a hydration break where the camera zooms into a crowd of players taking on liquids and 1 famous player turns to the camera and says something like "mmm Coke is it" or "Ahhhh Lucozade refreshes you through the ups & downs of a game" or some other more recent advert tagline. Or if a player is getting treatment for an injury "Have you had an accident at work?"

They're not drinks breaks. Let's call them what they are: quarters.

Having halves instead in air-conditioned stadia doesn't put those teams at a disadvantage over those who have quarters in inhumane > 30 degree temperatures. On the contrary, quarters in > 30 degree heat are more exhausting, as anyone who's tried to play competitive football in those conditions will testify.

I suppose a sensible option would have been to move to the autumn where the temperatures would have be more tolerable, say September/October. Any later than that and temperatures in Canada and the northern US would be going too far the other way, probably. Appreciate it would cause chaos in the calendar, but it was done before in Qatar, and presumably will be again in 2034 when it's in Saudi.

Could have had next season start mid July, then shut down after August Bank Holiday, come back around 10 October. I mean, the international break in September is going to be three weeks anyway, so it'd just have been that but with an extra couple of weeks.
