Why is James trusted more than Mainoo in that CM position? What's the point of taking Mainoo over Wharton, who has the skills to unpick a low block, if you're not going to use him when we're missing both Rice or Henderson?

It's like he's trying to play checkers whilst the Norwegian manager is playing chess. At least the James sub looks slightly more logical now he's at RB, and Saka is starting to have an impact.

To avoid looking like Captain Hindsight, I think it would be good if you explained the thinking behind the changes and your comments. Tuchel clearly wasn't happy with the performance so something didn't work. [Post edited 12 Jul 8:45]

I understand why Rice had to go off, but he withdrew Bellingham, who had started to influence the game before half-time and would have been buoyed by his goal, to a deeper role and replaced him with Eze, who was ineffectual. It wasn't until he brought on Rogers and put Bellingham back in the 10 that we were able to wrestle back some control in the middle and up top. Eze also looked more comfortable on the wing. He should have brought on Rogers at half-time, left Bellingham in the 10 and Gordon on the wing. Had he done so, I think we would have seen a more controlled performance in the second half. | | | |
