What I don't understand is conversations last time 'we won't let what happened last time happen again'. They must have had conversations and targets ready for new season as we left last year. Of course Kieran going will affect choices, but the lack of any serious activity of note, with pre season here now, smacks of Kieran told 'little money'......Good luck to him.

I remember going to games in 1993 with a friend and his dad. He moaned about everything. He was rich, had a healthy son, the football team he supported has just got into the Premiership. And he relentlessly moaned about life, politics, family and especially football.

It was batsh!t to me as a kid. But it was also a great rehearsal for reading TWTD these days

We have a weird fanbase. Like... REALLY weird.

Please tell me every club has people like this?

We look close to signing a new keeper and one or both of Fatawu and the Morita could.move quite fast.

Morita would be a fantastic signing and the fact he is free is a massive bonus and nothing to do with no money to spend. The outlay there will be big wages.

Fatawu is a prem quality player and in a position we need. We are suddenly looking in a much healthier position.

The base squad is technically much superior to the previous squad that went up albeit they hadn't had the time together and the spirit wasn't quite at the same special level.

No doubt we will need further quality additions but the biggest signings will l need the most patience because the prices will come.dkwn significantly and players will become available only once other clubs do business.

I appreciate I really lack a connection with the current squad but, outside of O'Shea, Matusiwa and, maybe at a stretch, Davis, I really don't think anyone is of Premier League starting standard. I think the team spirit in 2024/25 put us in a better position heading into the season that the mess we made out of the summer and January transfer windows. Sunderland brought in 15 players last summer and I think we need to do similar.

A fair set of points, met with down votes, by happy clappers who’d clap our wonderful club off a cliff.

Money isn’t an issue. We know that. Based on known revenue and the fact we bounced back so quickly, we have more dry powder than last time. And the new rules based on turnover will suit us this season.

If anything, we might be able to spend more than teams that qualified for Europe (85% of turnover against 75% under UEFA rules).

So weirdly we have an advantage over some of the competition, especially where like Bournemouth their match day revenue isn’t great.

No. All that is fine.

So what is the problem. No point being a record and going through it in detail. We just don’t have the people and skill and networks other clubs DO.

Mark wants to do it all.., at at this part of football, it’s not that he’s shockingly bad, it’s just that our competition is about five levels higher than he is.

He hasn’t scouted and signed a SINGLE player good enough for this level, EVER in 36 years, if that isn’t a clue to the happy clappers I don’t know what is. Not ONE.

Delap being the only possible exception but based on last season, he’s struggling at the level too. And Delap wasn’t scouted as a first choice, he was way down our list that summer.

Ashton can’t do it.

WE let him become the clubs only football voice, no team, no complexity, no accountability or scrutiny.

The HAPPY CLAPPERS did that. Success in the EFL they think makes him world class - it DOESNT.

I don’t know how much evidence they need, it I do know they’ll be the most vocal when it’s another 20 point season, and we’ve set fire to maybe £350 million at that point!!

They’re just emotional…, they’re the ones that hate the most when it go’s wrong, the EFL success will be forgotten.

Mark isn’t terrible at all.., he’s very good at lots of things, but at this level it’s ALL about recruitment, and he’s maybe 4/10 relative to the level, on a good day.

That isn’t ever going to work.

Oh. Leeds had Julian Brandts agent in Tadcaster this week - he’s arguably world class, along with Wilson could be in the top 10 players in the entire division when in form!!!

Ashton finished way above Sunderland and Leeds thanks to McKenna, and has spent more money!

They’ve built a squad to go challenge for Europe, both of them, while we’ve built one fit for the EFL, and if we continue, probably not even that.

Why can’t Ashton attract a Wilson or a Brandt or the 20 other players they’ve both signed, every one of which is a level above anything in our squad.

If we flap that. We get what we deserve!!!

We have a rump of fans who don’t want the challenge of this level, they want to win against Morecombe instead, for the sake of their fragile egos.

We have a culture problem. We don’t see ourselves as belonging at this level, and won’t hold Ashton accountable to these standards .

Ashton is levels below what’s required in recruitment. That isn’t changing. Making us Ashton FC if we want to be at this level was and is a HUGE mistake.

And a 'Morecambe' one
Oh, and an 'ego' one

No 'ELITE' klaxon though. Disappointing.

I see where you're coming from and agree we need many big time additions. I think the difference we have from last time in the prem is the depth. It's not at the level for starters, absolutely not, but when you think last time we brought on Luongo, AAH, Edmundson, H clarke, Burgess, Morsy, Hirst, all relatively big members of the prem bench and squad. This season, hopefully, the subs will be the likes of Egeli, Jaden, mcateer, Nunez, kipre. None of whom are major premier League starters or players, but as a base level are significantly better than the 2 leagues in 2 season amazing crazy gang we worshipped and relied on.

“Happy clappers”, “Morecombe”, “Ashton”, “Sunderland” - I’ve won the Dark Horse w@nk word bingo and could on numerous threads they have posted. No idea where Morecombe is btw, but I did clap and moan in three visits to Morecambe.

Well it's not a surprise people are getting edgy because

1. We don't have much time left, kick-off is just couple weeks away and players need to get in pre-season. If not the oft-mentioned "gelling" excuse will come in again

and more importantly,

2. The past few transfer windows since 23/24 has more or less been hit and miss. And I daresay more missed than hits. Delap, Hutch, Matusiwa, and perhaps Clarke/Philogene the majority of signings have been far from convincing/value for money both in the PL and Champ.

Hopefully this time next year the club will only need 3 or 4 new signings as that will mean the cub is still in the Premier Leauge and its just a case of building the team .Everytime the club moves up or down a leauge more changes are always made and the more changes you make the chances are that many of new signings wont be a hit ,best to take time to get the right players

The reality is there is no such thing as a happy clapper of course. Just a 'clever/edgelord' term tossed in with great delight as an automatic 'argument winner' for a select few. See also terms such as 'just saying' which of course automatically adds great weight to any argument.

I don't think KM going will make much difference, as the recruitment team will present the players to the manager that they think are right for the club, no matter who's in the hot seat. The only difference might be that G O'N might be looking for different things.

Hasn't it been the case that the manager gives the recruitment team a profile and they then present options that fit said profile.

Obviously this year there may be a change of tack. GON may want different attributes though I'm sure there must have been some discussion around recruitment at interview

Or, for certain fans
1, unproven, Mickey Mouse league
2. On his way down, past his best, lesser league.
3. League One cast off, couldnt keep a team in the championship let alone the prem.

Obviously I don't agree with the above, and think they all have merit and are decent signings, but the nature of the players we will sign the moaners will find an angle to moan. And be utterly unflappably 'right' and it will prove that we are mismanaged and heading for league 2. You can't win it only drags you down.
