We're fishing in a very different pond this time aren't we. 14:45 - Jul 20 with 3235 viewsVic

Last time we put together a Championship All Stars team. I'm really liking that our scouting network is clearly so much better, and that the calibre/type of player would appear to be much more Prem ready.

So far so good, but as a wise drunk man once said - football is played on grass not paper, so we'll only really know when we start to play!

I agree however we are shorter odds to get relegated than last time. We are 6/5 to stay up. Last time we were just below evens to stay up before a ball was kicked.

Absolutely.

And in response to EI's comment - I think that's probably because there was such a story behind our meteoric rise with an expectation that momentum would give us a kick start. And that we had the most sought after young manager in the country. It soon unravelled!

I have a sneaky suspicion that GON is a bit more prem wise than KM was last time; this and the quality of player we seem to be after. My hopes are rising at the moment!

If we were to look at a back 3, not against that idea.

GK
O'Shea - Diop - LCB
RWB - Matusiwa - Morita - Davis
Fatawu - LAM
ST

Still need 6 PL level players, plus additional depth. We are bringing in the right level of player for me, but we still need more of it, still so much work to do - heading in the right direction if we can get these over the line.

We planned to spend over £200 million on players we ourselves think aren’t good enough for this league and/or couldn’t retain.

Maybe five minutes in the shade?

What a stupid post and patently inaccurate post. At least it was uncharacteristically short.

I’m actually worried you might be serious.

We’ve signed a Brazilian a top foreign scout (Scowy) said and I’ll quote ‘he was in my radar, and lots of clubs, lots of us looked at, he’s strong, physical, if we all decided he DIDN’T have the quality’.

And we look likely to sign Diop, who is a brat profile, and a league one player with back to back relegations, and looks a good EFL prospect, as per our last £200 million we largely wasted.

That doesn’t scream elite talent ID and mind blowing strategy. Leeds and Sunderland signed a dozen Diop level signings EACH.

It’s a bit early to suggest we can land the required talent this window, because it’s late July and we haven’t signed a single one!

Hopefully Diop gets done…, you do know Fats has 11 games at this level, and Diop hasn’t been a regular for over two years??

I know Diop I’d agree is far more like it. And we love a signing!!

But didn’t you also get excited for our premier league level players before.

Were you excited for Sammie? Johnson? Phillips? Jens? Akpom? Azon? McAteer? Walle? Ogbenne?

And that’s barely the start of our waste!!

There’s ONE example of a player who is at this level, who hasn’t signed yet, and 100% and literally dozens that are such a liability we still might have a legacy we don’t easily recover from.

Leeds are adding ‘one or two’ arguably world class players, as are Sunderland, because they don’t need to add 10, because they did it so well on promotion.

We DIDNT. Hence 22 points, wasting £200 million and still needing another 7 Diop level signings.

Wilson and Brandt .., that’s what you can do when you sign 8 ballers last summer, with less money than we spent!!

We start again. EVERY window precisely because we’re so awful.

So no. Don’t judge the window on ZERO signings, wait, judge in August, and we’ll see if Diop is the outlier or new norm.

I hope you’re 100% right BTW.., because if it’s not the new norm, we won’t get 22 point let alone stay up. Another 4 at that level, a new system, and who knows.

But no. At the minute, well into the window, it’s been much the same, but with one signing in EVERYONES radar that nobody else wanted, that smacks of the same people making the same mistakes more than the Revolution in talent ID we need.

But hopefully your blind optimism is correct.

Dark horse- for some reason your post disappears after I log in! no idea whats going on there! But i did read it while offline and it seems youve got me muddled with another poster. For example, I was not excited about signing Akpom, Ogbene and the others you cite. So it seems to me you just make stuff up to suit your post and maybe to try to wind others up.

Maybe thats why I have you on ignore!

No need to read it. Full of the usual inaccuracies and rubbish but at least ‘Morecombe’, wherever that is, wasn’t mentioned nor ‘happy clappers’. Seems to have moved on to telling everyone how we should have signed ‘world class’ Julian Brandt. An excellent player but would never be coming here and is so world class he didn’t make a very mediocre German World Cup squad. That’s the last of me reading Dark Horse; going on the Div list and not before time.

Why have you posted this in the news comments:

"The perfect profile, great experience, big, powerful; knows exactly what’s expected at this level.

100% the type we need. Still an age where his peak years could be the next 2 or 3 seasons too."

Then here you've posted he's a league one player at best. I assume you mean Fatawu?

Dang, it must be sad and lonely in the dark and negative place where you exist …

”…and I’ll quote ‘he was in my radar, and lots of clubs, lots of us looked at, he’s strong, physical, if we all decided he DIDN’T have the quality’.”

This word salad not only doesn’t read coherently, it’s not even an accurate quote. Sure he said others had looked at Emerson (and presumably passed), but he also highlights his strengths and potential. As for a real, accurate quote, he noted that “Ipswich could strike gold if it all comes off, but it’s a gamble that other people haven’t been willing to take”. Nothing wrong with that imo - Delap was a gamble. Unlikely he’ll be our starting no.9, so seems a considered risk for a club in our position.

You seem to have gone back to lots of words in capitals to emphasise the repetitive negativity and 100% misery about Ipswich Town. Pleased to see you have upped the 2024/25 spend to £200m though. I suggest you make it £250m to make it sound more impressive.

Are you ok? You really sound unwell.
