I guess the first ‘superstar’ (no pun intended for the older ones) footballer I remember for Liverpool and later Hamburg. A good footballer in an era where we didn’t produce too many tbh. RIP

That was 93-94 after Chrissy K got a late equaliser.
Not seen Dave in decades bless him. I remember a piece in the Star where he apologised to Keegan profusely for that.
When my daughter was at Uni, she worked in the corporate boxes at Chelsea taking the bets. She told me how a “lovely old man” stopped and talked to her when she visited his box, asked questions about Uni and paid a genuine interest in her responses, and was a total change to the people she normally had to deal with.
“He said his name was Kevin Keegan, and that it won’t mean anything to me, but will you Dad…”

That was absolutely hilarious. We were only about 20 or 30 yards away in West Stand lower when it happened. He actually rested his head against the plexiglass when we scored a late undeserved equaliser and somebody slammed their hand on it. Keegan’s went nuts (don’t blame him either) and chased him up the stand before the chaos subsided. Oh how we laughed. Looking it up, it was 31 August 1993.

I think KK is an absolute legend of the game and I’m really sad to hear he’s passed. He also came across as a great human. My thoughts are with his loved ones.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.
Memories:- 1977 Liverpool with KK winning their first European Cup & him subsequently going off to Hamburg
Have an uncle who liced in Hamburg & became a ST holder on the back of that transfer
1978 scored in a 1-1 draw v Brazil, my first England game at Wembley
His move to Southampton & many high scoring matches against us
The move to Newcastle to almost messianic adulation
His return as manager being even better than his spell as player, England etc
But my overriding memory is when he was a pundit at a Manchester United (?) game and was self aware enough to comment on the serenading he was receiving...

Ipswich seemed to get Keegan’s back up a few times during their Entertainers period. As well as the dugout incident , do you remember him being unable to contain his disgust at us getting a point at St James’s Park in November 94? Took Newcastle 86 minutes to finally break down a defensive Town, only for Claus Thomsen to score an equaliser in stoppage time.
RIP though to a genuine class act as a player, manager and from everything I could make out about him, man.
Edit: Just further to the dugout incident, I guess 33 years is long enough to start getting nostalgic about the early years of the Premier League. Add in Barry Davies on voiceover duties, and memories of a better age seem inescapable:
