His playing career was a bit before my time. I'll always remember him as a character in his managerial years, and a character, and generally nice guy he certainly did seem to be.

I was privileged to see him play for Liverpool, Southampton and England in addition to watching his Newcastle side, of course. Very much a figure of my yoof. A top player in his day.

He was an all action winner. I've posted this before but it's a favourite clip of mine.
He wanted to win any sport he took part in.

Antisemites, Jew haters and crashing bores will be put on ignore.
Kevin Keegan was an example of a player who was not blessed with extraordinary football skills (like a George Best or a Glen Hoddle) but was an incredible natural athlete, something he was the first to admit. Could easily have played cricket
What did raise him above his peers was his commitment, self discipline and how hard he trained to learn and make himself a better player, which is what subsequently made him European Footballer of the Year, twice.

Others have already said it, but his Newcastle team was everything you want to see when you watch the game. One of footballs passionate characters, and I cant imagine many football fans not feeling sad today.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

He'd have loved the game against France the other night.

One of my childhood heroes...no idea why he was in my neighbourhood one day when I was a kid, but know that he came into my local newsagents to buy a packet of mints. Was absolutely starstruck, so my mum had to ask him to sign the issue of "The Topper" comic I'd just bought - he duly obliged, stopped for a little football chat, and then ruffled my hair before leaving the shop and getting into his Jag and on his way.
Great player, and really enjoyed watching the teams he managed too; think the scoreline of that last England game was a throwback to his style of play

Same for me, I loved his Newcastle sides.
I've always really admired how he handled his England resignation too, that post match interview said a huge amount about the class of the man.

Peace out Kevin Keegan, Kiwomya’s winner against your Newcastle is still my favourite Ipswich moment of all time.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

RIP Mr Keegan
An under-rated player. Left Liverpool to join Hamburg & wasn't made particularly welcome as he was on big money (5x what he was on at Liverpool) but he toughed it out at a club who hadn't ben successful, they won the Bundesliga in his second season, got to the European Cup Final & Keegan was twice voted European Footballer of the Year. When he came back to play for England, you could see how much he had worked on & improved his game, after facing man-to-man marking in Germany.

Even the Mackems like him and hold him in high regard. That says it all for what he did for the North East region in general.
